Amatuer Musical Theatre, Junior Theatre and Singing Groups

In the UK we are members of a local amateur musical theatre group (e.g. Guys and Dolls, Kiss Me Kate, Anything Goes etc and Panto) and our youngest daughter is also a member of the junior section of this group (ages 7 - 16). My wife is also a member of a 40 strong mixed singing group (best description is a choir but they don't wish to be pigeon-holed as they sing anything from Mozart to James Bond!!).

Does anyone know if there are similar amateur theatre/singing groups in the Adelaide area?

Thanks

Alan

As in any large conurbation, there are many theatre, singing, groups in Adelaide and surrounds.

I have also been in a choir for many years, (male voice choir) and have found 2 or 3 in Adelaide. We have also been to some amateur productions of Cats & Les Miserable, and seen posters for numerous shows, as you drive around. I am sure that something will suit you, and you will be made most welcome.

There are several drama and theatre skills groups for kids, some run by people who are also agents. Some are run by people who are just in it as a bit of an ego trip, some are very basic, and some concentrate on particular areas, such as the singing, musical theatre etc.

There are several adult drama groups around too - when you get here, have a look in the Saturday Advertiser, Review Section - there are frequently ads for auditions for various shows.

My daughter used to do something called Theatre Train in the Uk (similar to Stagecoach) and we looked all around for something like that here. We tried a few, and were disappointed although one I would recommend was an annual 'camp' run by a group called Pelican Productions - although I did hear thru the grapevine that one of the directors had fallen pregnant so they may have stopped! Lucy now sings in the Australian Girls Choir and has had some fantastic opportunities with them, including appearing in The Boy From Oz with Hugh Jackman, and going on tour to Tasmania with them. She is singing tonight at the Port Adelaide Annual Dinner!

Once you get here, drop me a PM and I'll give you some contacts for your daughter, including what and where to avoid! Plenty of opportunities though, don't worry!
