came to nz nearly two years ago, enjoy it,beautiful place to live, good schools, safe everything you'd wish for...... except, bloody expensive place to live, low wages, massive bills to just for the day to day stuff.

feel in the back of my mind that oz is the place for us,adelaide would be first choice,, anybody lived in nz and made the move to oz,if so advantages or negatives,,let me know.

we are a family of three girls, and me and the wife,,advice please.

Hi there and welcome to PIA,

In my opinion Adelaide is expensive too, although it is stated that it is the cheapest area out of the whole of australia!

We are at present going through our savings at a rapid pace and it is scaring us to death! The sleepless nights are back and even considering throwing in the towel and trying somewhere else if it doesn't improve any.

I can't give you a comparison on NZ and don't want to frighten anybody either, this is our opinion and based on our circumstances, I do hope that it does pick up so that we can continue with our adventure but at the moment we are taking each day as it comes.

You will get some other views on this area and best of luck to you x

    Hi there

WE are in NZ but plan to move to Adelaide in around 18months. We found food etc cheaper than NZ apart from a couple of things - and there was more choice than here. Wages are lower than UK but higher than NZ. If you can find work easily over there its probably a good move. Houses etc are better value depending on where you move to in Adelaide. Only thing thats a lot dearer - the beer! but wine is a good price! Good luck with your decision - how did you get on in the storm?

Hi Cornelia, really worrying about you at the moment. You seem to be going through a low patch. Noticed on a thread the other day you had spent £44,000 just a couple of weeks in ( thought this was really frightning-other than the cars what big purchases did it go on). Someone else posted that 50% of families head back to UK. If you move on where do you think you'll head too.

    Hi

We lived in Nelson, South Island before we had our son, 2003/4 I would say its on a par with Adelaide expense wise although friends who recently returned to the UK have said they were charged 17$ for one courgette (zucchini) (she put it back) which is absolutely outrageous but the reason being was it was out of season !! (enough of my exciting Grocery stories).

Another Friend has rented her house out to return to the UK to earn some real money to prop up her mortgage as the Interest rate she is currently paying 11% in NZ at the last count. I guess if you can come to OZ as a perm resident it would be easier on you financially with the Children and of course the climate is much better, although Nelson had a micro climate of its own and was very pleasant I found it never stopped raining in Auckland...........

In my Experience I found we made a lot more Kiwi mates than we have Ozzies but that maybe down to the fact that socialising is not our only priority now, where as before we would be up for anything and had the disposable income to do it.

You're probably none the wiser after all that but good Luck whatever you decide.

    Michelle
