Bank Holidays !????

Hello PIA,

We are in at the end of the August Bank Holiday here in the UK. Does Australia have Bank Holidays? I know that you can have Xmas and Australia Day off. Also the average leave time allowed by employers over here in the UK is 28 days a year, whats the average in Oz? Regards....Mitchkeza.

yes we have bank holidays in oz, the next ones in October if i remember right.

As for annual hols i suppose it depends on your job. I get 20 days annual leave + 13 PDO's (about 1 a month) Not sure if they apply in different jobs other than construction

Labour day in oct

then proclamation day 26 dec

Queens birthday june

anzac day april

australia day jan

then all the others, easter good friday new years etc etc

They are called Public Holidays over here. You get 10 per year (2 more than the UK I have been told) but you only get 20 days holiday. When you have been at a company for 10 years you get Long Service Leave which is 3 months (13 weeks) with full pay. You accumulate LSL at a rate of 1.3 weeks for every years service, but you have to be at a company at least 7 years before you can take any LSL. Normally you can spread out your LSL over a few years which is really handy when you want a long holiday. You also get an extra 17.5% pay when you are on holiday, so it pays to be on holiday and not at work!!

At least we know that there are some breaks to look forward too without taking extra days from the annual leave entitlements. Thanks again PIA....Mitchkeza.
