Hi I am new to this but just got 175 visa through a couple of days ago, we have been in Australia about 4 times, lived in Sydney for 7 fantastic months. Had to (very very reluctantly) return to the UK last year as f-in-law had terminal cancer.

Applied for perm res end Sept 07, medicals Feb 08 and then heard nothing until visa granted. Only got til Feb to be in Oz but hope to be there sooner. Already applied for 2 jobs, I am a manager in NHS but have loads of forensic mental health experience, worked in psych hospitals and prisons. Worked in Justice Health NSW while there - missing it loads!!! OH is prison officer but wants complete change of career, ie surf bum!!

No worries or fears about going, just want a job to go to and that would mean we leave here quicker. If I don't have a job we'll be going start Feb. So we'll have to suffer another UK winter .... great!!:elvis:

Only slight concern is the shipping of our stuff. When we left 2 years ago we sold absolutely everything we owned, when we came back from Oz had to sell everything in Oz and now we really don't want to do the Ebay, Car Boot take over your life thing. We haven't got a lot of stuff as we are in a rented fully furnished place here, stupidly we bought the contents of a mate's house last year and put in storage so we've got a wee bit to take to start off with in Adelaide.

No idea of how to get a quote for taking things. Is it better to fill in the online quote forms, get an international mover out to quote or what??? No idea where to begin on this one. As there isn't a lot of stuff we would consider a shared container but again no idea of where to start looking to ask people to share a container, any advice? :arghh:

So so so excited about going, just told my boss this morning I would be offski as soon as possible, great feeling being able to say I'm emigrating!!!!!! Roll on job offers, flights and new life!!!

ring around the shipping companies and get them to come and quote you. Thats what we did we got 4 to come and in the end went for john mason who were fantastic, not one thing broken and the packers excellent and quote was spot on from the guy from the liverpool office who used to be a packer himself .

They were not the cheapest they were the middle but well worth it. We also got quote from robinsons (who lost our quote, then sent it stating we were off to perth, then got our names wrong , we were going to go with them, glad we didnt as they ruined our friends sofas and broke some stuff).

We also got quotes from allied pickfords and anglo pacific x

WOW!!! You are so excited I think you are going to burst at the seams!!! Good on ya for coming back to Oz and hope everything goes well. Just one question, what has attracted you to Adelaide and why aren't you going back to sydney???? Don't get me wrong, I think its great you are coming here I just wondered what your reasons were!!

Hi yes bursting at seam sums me up at the minute!!!!

Sydney was great and loved living there but the job was so so and we just fancied somewhere where we could get to know people, a little bit smaller and affordable. Even though we were on a decent wage in Sydney we couldn't afford a house near the beach. In Adelaide you seem to get more house for your dollar. Also as I work in mental health there are more opportunities (I hope) as there are massive mental health reforms in SA.

Sydney feels more like a must do travel stay or short term work city and Adelaide feels more like a place you could call home, we hope. Don't take offence but if it doesn't work out we'll move on maybe to Victoria as we have been to Melbourne and really liked it there. But we are going to give Adelaide 150%, one things for sure we won't be back in the UK. We have missed Australia so much after living there for almost a year. OH is a very patriotic Jock and I am Irish but we both feel more at home in Australia!!!

Great news to hear you are coming! Yes Adelaide may not be the entertainment capital of Australia but it is a really good city to live. Houses a lot cheaper than Sydney, wider roads and to be honest I think we have some great beaches. Any Sydneysiders are going to give me stick for this but I honestly think that Moana beach is equally as good as Manly, it's just that because it's in Adelaide then it's not famous!
