Steph and me have been told by a mate, that we can only buy off plan new build properties or build our own when we first arive in Oz. Can we not buy re-sale?

Hi,

if you want a house to live in you can buy any house you like ( or should i say afford) if you are on a PR visa you can do as you please, if on a temp visa you have to get FIRB approval first, the paper work is normally taken care of by the selling agent and should take only a few days. The new build things is only if you want to buy an investment property.:)

Hi Simon,

Thanks for that, were coming on skilled visas so should this also be ok?

Thanks

Mike

Simon is right if you are on a PR visa you can do just about anything you want..... buy rent anything, remember you are entitled to FULL family benefit, subject to income of course. Cheers GRaham

Hi,

skilled visas can be temp or PR, but if you want to buy a house to live in you have nothing to worry about, you can buy old or new, it's just if you have a temp visa you have to fill out a simple form and wait a few days for approval, should be a formality, just make FIRB approval a condition of any offer you make on a house, agents deal with this all the time and are quite used to it. If you are on a PR visa you don't have to do anything.:)
