Shipping ahead of arrival

Hi Guys

does anybody know if you are allowed to ship your stuff ahead of yourself so that you can "meet" it at the other end?

Posts I have read seem to indicate not, as lots of people seem to be waiting for containers to arrive!

Just wondering, I don't fancy waiting for my sofa for 3+ months - I don't do orange boxes!!! :biglaugh:

cheers

Mandy

Hi Mandy,

We shipped out stuff about 3 weeks ago and arrive in Adelaide on the 8th Oct, the ship is due to arrive on the 11th. There was no indication that this was going to be a problem for anyone, so long as there was someone there who could receive it (my brother in our case) if the arrived before we did. I would have thought that we would have had to have shown a visa or something, but just a copy of our passport biodata page was sufficient (although thinking about it now, they could match the passport number to the visa number if they wanted to).

I know of another couple on this site who shipped about 4 weeks before they left the UK.

Hope this helps,

Ken

We shipped our stuff in Oct 07. We arrived in Jan 08. We arranged for a months worth of storage to be on the safe side. Upon arrival contacted the storage depot and arranged for delivery. Within two weeks old stuff firmly scattered around new house. I hope this helps.

We sent our stuff on 15th August and is due to arrive on 6th October.... Heck, we've even sent the dog ahead of us! She got there last Thursday and we don't arrive for another 12 days!

I'm just praying that I find us somewhere to live in time!!!

As long as you've got a contact address for the shipping forms (which you'll need anyway), you can send it whenever you want. I came out about 4 weeks before the container, which was delivered about 4 weeks after the wife and kids arrived (and about a week after the pets if memory serves)...

We bought camping stuff to tide us over (foldy chairs, blow-up beds, sleeping bags etc) and begged and borrowed things like TV's. There's that much to do when you first get here, the time flies and you won't necessarily miss your stuff - but it is a nice feeling to finally get your familliars back :)
