To obtain an aussie driving license, is it as simple as taking your UK license and filling in a form then paying a fee then they give you an aussie license? or do you have to do something else like a theory test or practical?

    That's it basically.

When I arrived a few years ago you still had to take a test!

yep as Tyke said, very simple, just fill in one of the forms, i went into the place in the CBD opposite the train station, took ID etc paid the money for however long you want it for (10 years max) and had picture taken. Get given a temporary paper one and 4 days later the card was posted to the house. Very simple

It just seems that way , Aussies are used to driving in wide open spaces you know why else did they make sure the roads were wide enough for 2 cars to pass each other! The roads in the city were built big enough to turn a bullock train around, so when Aussies transferred into cars they still needed that space so as to avoid having to do 50 point turns.

Not long ago say 50s, so those people will still be driving, all you had to do was go to the local police station, be able to reach the pedals and go for a drive up and down.

I think it involves downing a carton of beer and just going for it doesn't it?? they seem fine when you have 2 miles to turn around, in Brisbane, Melbourne or Sydney they just didn't seem to understand the 3 point turn ?)
