Nurses - Anyone know how long it takes for..

That's great that there are so many of us on here. I spoke with a chap from Clinical One this morning and he is passing my CV (or resume in Oz speak) to some private providers to see if I can get a telephone interview so will keep you posted.

In answer to your question Matt, I think most of us nurses have a similar warped sense of humour (my background is A&E) some of us worse than others though x

hi hun just be careful if you use an agency. I came through clinical one and im not liking my job much but i have a $5000 bond in my contract if i break it in the first 12 months, even though im on pr visa. I really wish i had waited til i got here to look for a job. Public is meant to be better than private, but i know i wanted a job before i got here so having done it id say approach the hospitals directly, just my advice.

Yes im from an emergency background and i cant get by without my warped sense of humour, its funny us nurses are like that, some people out of nursing just dont 2get me 2 lol :biglaugh:

Gday all.

Were coming across on the 14-11-08 and missus wants to know are there any Scrubs on here already working in Adelaide that she could meet up with and chat about what its like scrubbing over there.

Basically are scrub nurses f###up, twisted with as serious warp sence of humour as they are here ???:jimlad:. she's Orthopidics, traumer + some Neuro.

She will be working at the Calvary.

Matt, Mandy, bilbo and kerra (dogs)

:jimlad:oooarr jimlad, i think its compulsory for most nurses to have a slightly sadistic and squewed view on life, espeicially the bloodier the job:biglaugh:im in hdu

Gday Jane.

What date you flying out on ? Were got a 10pm flight on the 14-11 from heathrow and flying with Quantas; arrive in Adelaide 16-11 at 07.25.

Were staying at freedom meridan on Melbourn street for a couple of weeks untill we get the rental sorted.

So if anyone want to meet up for a drink, give us a shout.

Why is it blood and guts nurses have such a sadistic, warped sence of humour ?

After 12 years the missus still sometimes supprises me, but i aint complaining :).

OMG, a&e, theatre, recovery, hdu, respiratory, awfulpaedics:biglaugh:, paediatrics, and a couple of midwives.........we could open our own hospital at this rate!!

I agree, using an agent isn't for everyone, but they can offer support and guidance, and do some of the leg work. I declined the offer of relocation packages, i like to have some control. Mind, what they offered wouldn't have shipped us out there anyway!!

Public or private; issues are the same..........doesnt warrant the worry just now.

Have a great day yawl, im cleaning up for the buyers!!!!

Hi Matt,

we are aiming for around the same date, but from Manchester. Haven't decided on which airline yet; need seats with plenty of leg room!! and of course, the baggage allowance for 6 of us is fast becoming an issue!

Would love to meet up for a bevvy, mate; it'd be great to be with other newbies!

Yes, theatre nurses are particularly odd; all that rummaging in other peoples innards, bound to have an affect on ones perspective! Also, being a bit loopy, takes your mind off the smell.....................and then theres the odour of the innards!!

Nurse don't have a sick sense of humour just nobody else has one.!! Only Joking... I worked in Breast Care so doing clinical breast exams and tattooing nipples has been the butt of many a joke.

I have found the hospitals really good here, friendly and informative. Be bold and phone the nurse managers for the areas you want to work. I have done a few visits to units and other nurse specialists. They are more than happy to help.

Guest happy feet

We should hold a nurses day out (barbie, wine and beer), all nurses alcholics and smoke too much!!!! We maybe not all ???????(IMO, don't want to upset anyone)

But please wait till i get there! It is very reassuring knowing so many of us will all be arriving within afew months of each other and hopefully we can all help each other and make the move slightly easier.

Don't worry be happy

i wouldnt worry either if your happy with using an agency then go for it. But having expierienced private i am told the public system here is better, more staff etc. Some of the nursing practises here are oudated for eg i was asked to give a GnA enema (one you make yourself with water yuk) they were banned years ago in uk. I find infection control and coshh also appalling. But thats jujst my experience.

Good luck to all the nurses coming over and if you need any advice shout up x

Thanks for useful advice re: agency, certainly not had any financial bond type discussion...... so will be prepared.

Had the telephone discussion this morning with the Directorof Nursing at the Memorial Hospital and as your wife says Cornishman, it was like a really nice chat for 40 mins....... Will wait and see whether anything comes of it......

Would definately love to get together when we arrive, especially as I am joining two of my other nurse friends who arrived in Adelaide 6 months and 18 months ago, both ex A&E, one now Health Visiting and one Community Nursing.

You are so right, we could staff our own hospital at this rate....

Community is defo the way to go if you want autonomy and decent hours. Think job share, term-time contracts and autonomy are swear words to nurse managers here. Practices are very outdated. I heard that there is an English Director of nursing been brought out here to the RAH to update and sort out practices. Anyone else heard that.
