Phoning UK

We have just had our first aussie phone bill at just $1.29 :D

For those of you worried about keeping in touch with family and friends when you are over here there are some great phone cards about. We picked one up for $30 (approx £12) when we got the phone connected and have used this to call back frequently since getting here. We get 5500 mins to UK which last for 3 months for that $30. We also use it to call friends in Spain :D

You just dial a contact number (which does not even show on your phone bill) then enter a pin and the phone number and away you go.

The one we have picked up is a TP Time card which is new and only charges one flat rate no matter what time of day you use it. If it is of interest to anyone more info here - http://www.telpacific.com.au/phonecard_tptime_about.asp

:D That's very economical Lisa! Where did you buy your card from and can you use it with any phone or just you home phone?

Skype is great if all your friends and family have pc's - we use msn to chat free on webcam but it is still nice to have the option to call those not on a pc at a low cost :)

My gran for sure would never turn a pc on

Lisa, do you have to pay a monthly line rental for your landline?

we use a phone card called oz call, from the post office, same sort of principle as mentioned earlier but you can get about 2000 mins for $10 and you have to use it within 3 months very economical i think much better than telstra who we used at the beginning!:(

You can become a talk tomato VIP which means you only need to dial the first part of the number and you can set up speed dial which is miles beter than dialing all those numbers, also it means the credit doesnt run out after 3 months
