Coming for 2 weeks on the 22nd of May!

    Recommended Posts

    Hi everyone,

Me and the OH are coming over to validate our visas on the 22nd (next Friday!) and I wondered if anyone fancied meeting up? We would love to meet some people while we are over there! We are both 22, Chris is an engineer and I'm a trainee teacher.

We are going to have a look at a few properties while we are there and hopefully have a couple of interviews set up for Chris as we may stay if something comes up!

I also wanted to ask about the best place to look for engineering jobs. I have looked in the usual places (Seek, career one, gumtree), but they don't seem to advertise the right level of jobs. They all seem to be for higher levels, but I wondered if there is anywhere else to look online??

    Cheers,

    Lucy

We are staying in Oaklands Park, we need to look for work, the OH has a few recruitment agencies that want to see him and buy a car and most importantly socialise! LOL

We will have to go for a few drinks. My OH is a welder so is involved in engineering too and I am a Community Worker. I will PM you our email.

Most of the engineering work is just north of the city, not all but most.

There has not been a lot advertised lately in the paper as things are a little slow.

Try www.alljobs.com.au this searchs the big 4 in one go.

Most will not even reply untill you are in the country, i added my flight details etc about a month before arrival and secured 8 interviews this way, they basically just say "give me a ring when you land"

What you have to understand is that there are many people applying for each job. Over here face to face is more important than sending a CV and waiting for a reply. You have to make an effort to travel to each site and hand deliver, ask for the person and try to have a quick chat, that first 2 minutes can make or break.

A lot of companies do not advertise in the papers, some use boards outside the premises, most is word of mouth.

Be flexible on what you will do, getting any job is better than no job, this in turn sets up the networking. a chance to ask questions and find out how things tick.

Good luck with the reccie, enjoy the adventure, if it's still raining don't worry it's not always like that.

British BBQ day for us today, in the park with Brolly's, the aussies say we have to 'suck it up' which means its going to happen no matter what.
