  2. Quality barbering skills required.

Michael's Beach Road Barbers is currently looking for another barber.

Hours can be discussed, but NO late nights, NO Sundays and only half day on a Saturday. We came here for a good work life balance and we are sure you did too.

The shops opening hours are Monday to Friday 9am to 5.30pm and Saturday 8am to 12 noon.

If you are that person or know of someone who is or maybe even due to arrive in SA soon please either call into the shop at 88 Beach Road Christies Beach or drop us a note or PM on here.

    Thanks

  3. Hi folks.

Recently took over a Barbers at Christies Beach. We are currently looking for another Barber so if any of you; are a barber, are married to one or know of one either one here now or arriving soon we would love to hear from you. There isn't a 'Barber' course at TAFE here, only hairdressing so quality Barbers are thin on the ground.

    Cheers

    Michael and Les

  4. Hi all, I moved to Moana area back in January with my wife and two girls, I'm into road bikes/mountain bikes and my Ducati. We moved here from Scotland and I'm missing the opportunity to get out and do my sports, as I've had my head into working and buying a house.

anyone up for any of the above sports on a weekend! Or evening when it's lighter, let me know, I'm also up for a few beers or a jack D or two

  5. It's a huge relief isn't it? Currently staying at friends after moving out of our house in Erskine in June. Going to say goodbye to my family and friends in Ireland on Saturday then flying out of Edinburgh via London Singapore and Bali and arriving Adelaide 23 Aug. Feel like we are in the remake of Planes trains and automobiles ha ha. Good luck x

  6. HI We are from Erskine until next Wednesday and then we are off! We went to Adelaide last August to validate our visas. we were lucky because we have great friends who we stayed with but think you have good advice here already. What I would say is do take coats and jeans etc because although not like our winter here it is still cool definitely not shorts and flip flops weather. Congratulations on your visa btw. Its a fantastic feeling. You will absolutely love it. Good Luck

  9. Just to let you all know I have finally managed to get out of bed (its 1.37pm!) St Pats Day was well and truly celebrated. Then when my friend Martin said this could be the last St paddys Day we have together it really hit me what we would be giving up. I would be giving up all those weddings, birthday parties, babies being born etc. and all the christmas easter holidays etc. And anyway he said this was a good excuse to take 6 weeks off next year and visit singapore and OZ. But not all my friends could do this. However lying in bed nursing my hangover I realised that there will still be all those things just with new friends in Oz. And what with skype and the internet and email we can still stay in touch So no more tears. Im off to take 2 headache tablets and go and read my stuff on Adelaide!

  10. :chatterbox:HI and Happy St Patricks Day to anyone with Irish connections (which is probably about 95% of you) Im Irish living in Scotland for 5 years now married to a Scotsman with Irish roots! Hence Donnelly as my surname. Anyway Im sitting here with an Irish coffee for my breakfast wearing my Green "Lush of the Irish" T shirt and supporting Green Sparkly Deedle Boppers in the shape of shamrocks on my head. Listening to the dubliners at full blast. My Long suffering OH is looking at me bemused and thinking 'Is it that time of year again?'! Dear knows what the neighbours are thinking.

Anyway just want to say to all of you who have made it down under to enjoy yourselves tomorrow and dont forget to wear something Green and have a drink (or 3 )wideeyed.gif

PS hope you can get Magners in Adelaide or at least a good Guiness!

  11. HI

Dont know if you have Avon books in Oz but if you do their green Skin so soft dry oil spray if fantastic. We are bikers in Scotland and often up round the Lochs where there are swarms of the wee blighters. Spray some oil on before you go out in the morning and they will not come anywhere near you. It even smells quite nice. There has even been lots written about it in the press. Avon have a website so you could try it www.avon.com.au. Good luck

  12. Hi all

We applied for our visa last month, and this month we've found out we're pregnant

Can anyone give me some advice on having a baby over there... What's the ante natal care like, what are the hospitals like, post natal care etc etc etc.

Having a bit of a stress, don't know whether it will make more sense to come before or after the birth (if we get the visa quickly that is)....

We've been trying for years, so we're over the moon, but now - right now - is probably the worst timing!!! It's just confused everything!

    Thanks

    Dande

Oh Dande CONGRATULATIONS! Everyone around me is having a baby at the moment and its making me broody. Just dont tell my husband! I dont know from a practical point of view but if you maybe contact one of the medical companies they may be help to help from a cost point of view.

Good luck with your very special surprise

  13. Hi all,

as most of you know I came to Adelaide from Scotland and worked in Nutrition as aHealthy Eating Advisor. Unfortunately this line of work wasn't meant to be, so I managed to get a job within Flinders Hospital as a Personal Services Assistant, which was basically a cleaner with a fancy name. The job was casual and I was asked to go permanent starting in January. I did a two week training course within the department I was going to be working in, only to be told at the end of it the full time jobs weren't sorted out yet and it will take a while.

This meant that I had to look for my own shifts again and go onto standby, which as quite a lot of you know, this is difficult when you have young kids to drop everything and run.

Well.....here's the good bit, I thought why not open up a company offering domestic/commercial cleaning services. My OH is a painter & decorator and we thought it would be a great idea if we joined our companies together to create

    "Argyle Painting & Cleaning Services".

We did this a couple of weeks ago and now I have my first client.....Andy is still working self employed with the varying degrees of work he gets in through other companies, but to tap into the cleaning services area in just a couple of weeks with the amount of companies that are out there is brilliant....I think anyway.

So 1 client now, hopefully more tomorrow......and you never know we may make a success of it that we will need to employ people ourselves, which could help new people coming to Adelaide looking for a few days work until they get themselves set up with the job they want to do.

    So watch this space........

ps. the reason I wanted to post this was to let people know out there, that sometimes the job you came to do isn't quite the same or may be difficult to get, but it doesn't stop you from working at something, even if it isn't ideal, it's a start. Be open minded with the choices that you have, any job is better than none. Keep positive things have a way of working out when you least expect them and never give up trying x

Meant to say Michael is terrible at DIY so Andy will be kept busy in our house when we get there and at least you will have a hairdresser you can trust!

    HI Cornelia

I have just signed up to the forum and you are the first post I have read. Guess what I'm Lesley, Michael Donnellys wife! This has cheered me up as I am having a bad week and a really bad day. I think its a good omen that I have read your post.

To fill you in. We had decided on Melbourne and then found out Michael would have to do the IELTS to get enough points. Even though we got the results last Saturday and he got an overall 7.5 band we still dont have enough points for VIC. So our agent told us we could only go to ACT or WA. Neither of which ever appealed to us. So fed up I went on to PIO and found out that we could in fact get a state sponsorship for SA! ANd Adelaide had been our first choice anyway. So we have now come full circle and are going to submit a 176 for SA on Monday. Not sure whats going on with the agent but the help from the PIO site was great.

Anyway just like yourselves nothing has been straight forward but if you are determined it can be achieved.....just not in the straightest of paths. Anyway looks like you might get stuck with us soon (with any luck)
