    Hello,

I applied for 887 visa earlier this year but somehow I forgot to renew my passport it's already been 2 months since my passport expired, I am on bridging visa A, does it affect my visa application if I don't renew my passport on time, if anyone has experience this issue please advice.

    Thank you.

Hello, at the time of grant, the Department of Home Affairs would require you to have a valid passport (i.e. not expired). You would need to get in touch with your country of citizenship. Once you have received your new passport, you will need to inform IMMI of the new passport details ASAP.

    Got the GRANT today.

    Initial application Sept 2019

Thanks guys for all your posts. It was worth reading and helpful. Keep the faith. Definitely they are clearing backlog. Just keep everything tidy and upload docs as required. Always there to help if you need.

    Stay safe 🙂

Hey @HarryGBIND, what was the date of application in September 2019? Congratulations to you! Were you the only one in the party?

Hi, does anyone know how they allocate 887 files? Do they give each CO a certain number of files or?!
    just curious! thanks

Wait till the day I join Department of Home Affairs and if you're still not a PR yet or a citizen (if that's your next plan), I will let you know. 😬😬

    Hey Guys,

Just have a question, I landed in Melbourne on 03/07/2018 and then moved to Cairns on 06/07/2018.

    I applied for visa 887 on 04/07/2020.

That's 732 days since landing and 729 days since moving to Cairns will these 3 days considered as "Shorter periods where the applicant has traveled outside the specified area and won't be subtracted from 2 years of residence?"

Anyone has a similar situation and got his grant?

    Thanks

Hello @alielfiky That is totally fine for the 3 day duration. Normally DOHA will not look at that but they will be more alarmed if that is longer than expected. We are talking about months. I hope this makes sense.

I applied February 2018 no update yet 😔

Hello @Mandy, the current wait time is between 16-21 months. As you have applied in February 2018. this well over the waiting period of 21 months. It may be good to give them a tinkle. Provide a suggestion/feedback first. Otherwise, you can lodge a complain via your IMMI account. Hope something positive comes your way soon.

Funny story - I received my grant on 26th June 2020 but for some reason the email went to spam folder and I had not bothered to check until this morning when I called up the skilled support and they mentioned that my case was finalized last month and I have been sent an email too. They asked me to check the spam folder and call back if the email was not found. But surprise surprise, the grant email was sitting on the 2nd page of the spam folder - I know, I need to empty the spam folder regularly and check before I empty it.

Feeling stupid but mostly funny. And then I told my mother the whole story and we were both laughing. I hung up and a few minutes later she calls and asks "so you got PR?" Hahaha. Guess it runs in the family.

    Thanks everyone!

    Application dat 2nd October 2019

    Granted 26th June 2020

    Realized 23rd July 2020🤣🤣

Bottom line is that you've gotten the memo. But your secretary did not do the filing properly. Better late to the party than never. But before that, please change your sexytary.

    Congratulations!

Hi @Shivam, are you the same person as the one who posted on 887 Visa on Facebook (Shivi Sharma)? Or is it a different grant? Sorry, I am updating the tracker and needs to know how many grants are there.

Thanks wng for your hard work and initiative in this matter. I can probably speak for everyone by saying we appreciate it.

I understand many people are excluded and long term visas such as 489 should be included in PR category in the first place. But say for the sake of argument, if we go by their rules, once we become PR we have the same rights as other PRs. You would not include 1.1 million but only a couple of thousand that got PR as of March 2020. I find this an unnecessary discrimination that doesn’t hold significant implications to the Australian rules or budgets. I am getting an impression that 489 is the worse visa. First of, we are stimulating and promoting growth in Australian regional areas, we go through pain of paying lots of money to settle without enjoying any benefits for years. We go through thorough checks (police, health, language) during 489 yet somehow they manage to delay the process of 887 for 2 years and exclude us from all the benefits possible. I am angry because this should be a routine visa not a visa treating us as unwanted garbage. Then they should stop regional sponsorships all together! Pfffff!

Sorry I am not directing this anger at anybody in particular, but this whole 887 visa system is just bonkers!

Wng, in your experience and honest opinion do you think we can do anything to change it?

Hi @Hanna, there is still a chance to discuss about this. Both Shadow Treasurer Mr. Jim Charlmers & Senator Kristina Keneally who is both the Shadow Minister for Home Affairs & Shadow Minister for Immigration and Citizenship would be willing to listen. In the words of Senator Keneally, "If you have a story that you think Minister Ruston or the Treasurer should hear, I want to hear from you."

It is an ongoing battle and it won't be the end in all honesty. My case alone is not the largest voice but worth a try especially with Senator Keneally.

Guys, just learned that when we get 887, even if we are employed as of March 2020 we are NOT eligible for JobKeeper?! That’s a discrimination! Anyone heard the same?

Hi Hanna, this has been discussed broadly and I have taken up with two Shadow Ministers previously from the Labor government.

They did fight for us but it is a matter of a stroke of pen to include the other 1.1 million people who are ineligible for the Jobkeeper.
