  1. Seaford Rise is very well positioned.......................... Really! for what?

    Hi Jimmy

Tykes house in Seaford was very well positioned for everything we needed to do when we first arrived. Within walking distance from shopping centre, beach and library. By car we were minutes away from train link to the city, Port Noarlunga, shopping centre, beach and cafe's. About ten minutes from Christies Beach for our new driving licence and with Hallett Cove close by for its shopping and bank. Although we didn't settle in Seaford the house and area allowed us to recoup after our long flight while enjoying the most amazing sunsets and sea views.

  2. Hello Wen66

We have been here for three months now. We also stayed at Tykes beautiful house in Seaford when we first arrived. When we were due to move out our long term rental plans didn't go to plan so Tyke put us up in his Woodcroft house. We had a fantastic first few weeks there and Tyke made us feel very welcome. He really is a lovely guy. So Tyke if your out there - we miss you and your boat and fishing stories. We are now living in Glenelg and Lewis has landed a teaching position at a school in the city. We hope to catch up with you again soon. Thank you for all your help and support.

  3. A quote to see you through it:

  4. A big Thank you to the many adults & children who came to the the meet up in Sunny Mansfield yesterday.

A special thank you to Rachael for making the gorgeous cup cakes, Donna for the scrumptious lemon & lime cheesecake, Julie for the cheeky bottle of wine & Sue for the nibbles.

A massive Thank You to Jessica Berry & OH John for taking the time to come and share your knowledge with us. The personalised goody bags were so thoughtful. Lewis & I have spent hours reading all the information in the many newspapers & magazines. We are so grateful for your honest and thorough advise & it was great to meet you both while you were over here from Adelaide.

Hope to see you all again very soon.

  6. Hi BillyJo

Congratulations on your news for your third child. I think the parent thing will always be hard especially when it comes to grandchildren. I went round today and my dad is not handling it well and keeps crying. However, we are so close to going and the boys really want to go so we are pushing ahead and hoping he will accept our decision. I guess nothing is easy but I know it will be worth it in the end.

    Regards, Sue

    Sue

Your Mum & Dad should hook up with my mother-in-law for an afternoon in Nottingham. She's taken it really well and is already planning skype and a trip to see us at Christmas 2015.

  7. Hi Helen

Are you sure your ready for the ever growing numbers!!!

I am looking forward to meeting everyone.

    See you soon

    Sue

No worries Sue. I've got a really big island in the kitchen where we can all sit round and eat Rachael's cupcakes.

I'm hoping to stick a DVD on for the 3 young children. The teenagers will have an xbox and I Pads.

    Helen

  8. I am putting together some packs of information for you guys (for the 3 families so far), so if anyone else is coming along to the meeting and wants any particular information just let me know and I will see what I can do. You never know Rachael with this mass exodus of Nottingham you might need to bake 200 cup cakes for everyone at the meet up!

By the way Jessica there's six families coming now.

  9. Sadly the little fella in the pics passed away this morning. Billy was part of the family, along with Bart and Brock. He had not been well for a while and we knew he did not have long.

How lucky to have a great time on the beach like that???

Bit sad at our place today......................:sad::sad:

    Dear Tyke

Sorry to hear about your precious little dog Billy.

Thank you for sharing your lovely photographs.

  11. Hi Russell - Things are going really well thank you, hoping to start building up in the hills sooner rather than later. How is life on the coast?

Hi Helen and Howde - Yes as Howde says all 3 Universities will recognise A-Levels but I would always suggest a 1-to-1 with the University you are considering to work out the exact conversion of A Levels or BTEC to an Australian ATAR Score (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) as there can be slight differences. Uni of western Australia has a good tool which I used to learn on the job, I keep pushing UniSA to have one on their website.

As Howde says SATAC is the body all domestic students will need to apply through (Citizens and PR), if you are here on a temporary visa then there is a strong chance you will be considered an on-shore International student and the application route can vary (sometimes it can be direct through the University). Helen, if your son has some questions feel free to send them through, as stated I will try my best to help or at the very least get you in contact with someone who can help you.

Hi Craig it's Oliver, Helens older son.

I'm applying to a South Australian university this year to begin in 2015. I'm currently taking A2 geography, A2 business and AS applied business with AS English language. I'm predicted and hope to get B, A, A, B retrospectively (the two AS grades working out at a B A2 grade, for arguments sake) I had a look on your ATAR conversion table and this would give me 13 GCE points and 93 ATAR points?

Im thinking about doing a business degree (although not sure which as of yet) so had a look on the Adelaide university website. It said they have requirements of around 80.5 for business courses and even some courses having minimum requirements of 67. This seem unusually low, just wondering if I'm missing anything or have converted my grades incorrectly?

Also, I'm on a permanent 176 visa, do you know wether this means I have to pay domestic fees upfront or will I be able to access a loan?

Thanks so much both you and Howde for offering to help on this, it seems really hard to get the information over the internet so all the help is much appreciated, Ollie

  12. Hi Helen,

In the other school thread I have posted the link to SATAC - this is the university entrance body who handle all applications to the 3 unis here. Probably worth taking a look at their website and contacting them direct.

Craig will hopefully know more about how they recognise A-Levels as entrance. I would be surprised if they didn't.

    Thanks Howde

My 18 year old (Olly) is already looking into this himself. Thanks for the information - I'll pass it on. Im going to get him to contact Craig & hopefully register on this forum.

  13. This doesn't sound like the SA system - is it Victorian.

One of the very annoying things here is that the systems are different in each state.

    Hi Howde

Yes it could be. I picked up on this information on another forum.

Ive got two sons (Morgan is one of them) who are looking at the education system in Adelaide & Ive totally confused both of them with the wrong information. So Thank you everyone for your sound advice.

    Helen

  14. Thank you Craig

My son is hoping to go to University in 2015 in Australia. He's just about to take his A' Levels here in the UK. Most of his friends have applied for University in the UK and start their courses in September. We are moving to Adelaide in September and we are pleased that he has agreed to come with us. We have lots of questions so Ill talk to him tonight and get back to you.

    Thank you

    Helen

  15. Thanks Helen, this has helped a lot

By the way we are on a 176 PR Visa so our sons University fees are the same as Australian citizens pay and not that of International Students (which is about $30,000 per year without it). However, we do not qualify for a loan to pay our fees (about $9000 per year - he's picked the most expensive course going- a business degree!)

I'm not sure which visa your on or what the Collages/TAFE charges are? So may be your best option is the A Level equivalent course at a school and get your PR visa to qualify for the reduced costs at university later.

    Helen
