Overview

 

 

Medical Administrators plan, organise, direct, control and coordinate the professional and administrative aspects of health and welfare programs and services. Medical administrators is a unique medical specialty choice that combines both medical and senior management skills. Medical Administration is a very challenging and it is unlike any other.

 

 

Tasks

 

The Australian Standard Classification of Occupations (ASCO) defines medical administrators as directing and managing the professional activities of medical staff in hospitals, health services and health service facilities. Key tasks of a Medical administrators are:

 

  • manages organisations and departments responsible for health service delivery, within the authority of a chief executive officer, statutory board, area health service or central health authority

  • controls administrative operations, such as budget planning, and service and facility planning, develops policies and procedures for relevant organizational activities

  • represents the organisation to external bodies

  • provides medico-legal services to the employing institution

  • maintains quality, standards and discipline in relevant areas of medical practice in the institution

Job Prospects/opportunities in South Australia

 

 

In south Australia Hospital administrators are employed by public and private hospitals, community health centres, nursing homes and other health organisations. Some are employed by health authorities or government departments. They may also work as self-employed consultants.

Demand for this occupation is largely influenced by government funding. Currently, most vacancies are due to retirement. With fairly stable workforce numbers, competition for positions is strong. There is an increasing demand for administrators with postgraduate qualifications and good financial and management skills. I have analysed the job market of south Australia for Medical administrators throughly and I have found a very promising prospect for this speciality. Key findings of my research are:

 

 

  • Job prospects for Health and Welfare Services Managers(ie; Medical Administrator) are good.

  • Employment growth for Medical Administrator s is expected to be strong. Employment in this medium sized occupation (11,400 in August 2008) rose moderately in the past five years, and rose strongly in the long-term (ten years).

  • Health and Welfare Services Managers have a high proportion of full-time jobs (90 per cent). For Health and Welfare Services Managers working full-time, average weekly hours are 40.5 (compared to 41.8 for all occupations) and earnings are high - in the tenth decile. Unemployment for Health and Welfare Services Managers is below average.

  • Health and Welfare Services Managers are employed across several industries including: Health Care and Social Assistance; Public Administration and Safety; Manufacturing; and Administrative and Support Services.

  • The vacancy level for Health and Welfare Services Managers is moderate. Vacancies arising from job changing (Health and Welfare Services Managers changing employers) are expected to provide 11.4 per cent of vacancies, compared with 74.2 per cent from job openings (Health and Welfare Services Managers leaving the occupation) and 14.4 per cent from new jobs (employment growth for Health and Welfare Services Managers).

  • The mix of industries employing Health and Welfare Services Managers is very favourable for employment growth prospects.

bit of advice from my side. As the space in the application is restricted to only 1500 characters, keep your research concise and to the point. Unlike WA, imigration SA do not give u an option to send extra details separately.

My nominated occupation is Medical Aministrator and I have positive result from assessing authority. Now I am confused about the research portion for South Australian State Sponsorship.
