Emigrating seminars?

Not sure where to put this, but has anyone been to an emigrating to oz seminar?

 

If so was it worth it, did it help? etc etc

no never managed to go but brought the Australia magazine and read alot in there and other good books, would have loved to go to one though

we have been here a month, and iam sure there will be days when i think what the hell have i done, but you have that everywhere, but everymorning i wake up with a big smile and know that i have done the right thing for my family. good luck. we are all still finding our feet, but its the best thing we have everydone and my husband and i have lived in lots of countries in our 20 years of marriage, but here i finally feel at home, chilled and relaxed

If you've already started the VISA process (CPV143 in our case) is it worth it? or is it more suitable for people with families wanting sponsorship/job info etc?

Not sure but I've just booked one through Guide to Emigrating Abroad, Advice & Information on Overseas Emigration for £10 per adult and children free in Kettering.

we are in Craigmore, still havent got my bearings yet, but nothing to far for a get togather! my kids are two girls, 16, 15 and my son who is 8. so alot older! remember that lovely stage when the kids are still sweet not wanted to do there own thing and not answering back! hee hee! how long have you been here?

My hubby and I, and my mum, dad and younger brother went to a Down Under Live seminar in Leeds back in April. We found it to be very interesting and informative. We came back with lots of questions answered and feeling very excited about starting our visas. We even met our migration agent there.

 

We also receive the Australia and New Zealand magazine every month which also can be helpful.

went to the Working In London Expo today. Honestly for us it wasn't any good and this is the letter I have just sent them. To all those thinking of going be rest assured that you will get answers from this excellent forum!

 

Here goes,

 

Dear Working in,

I am writing to you to let you know that I visited your London Expo today with my family (5 professional adults). We have been looking forwards to this for a long time as we were lead to believe from your website it would be a good starting point for a better future, with migration experts at hand to give professional advice.

We arrived promptly for 10am and we left at 10:45am. That’s correct. We were so disappointed in the lack of enthusiasm from your exhibitors and also your website did not clearly state it was all healthcare related recruitment with stands that had no clue whatsoever as to where the jobs would be according to any of the skills they were promoting. No specific information available on individual states either.

The cherry on the cake was queuing to speak to a “visa” advisor who could not answer our questions!

I am disappointed that we spent £50 on entry tickets, £40 on travelling up to Hammersmith and over £10 for overpriced coffee.

I am sure a lot of effort goes into organising an event such as this, but we spoke to a lot of people who felt the same and would not be coming back to one of your expos again. Considering that in this kind of business, word of mouth recommendation is key, it is hasn’t done you or your exhibitors any favours whatsoever.

 

I am sure we were just unlucky on this occasion

I can't say that I'm surprised by the comments about emigration seminars. Many of the companies that Home2Home has been dealing with for the last few years have been feeling the negative effects of increasing restrictions on migration to Australia. Some have gone out of business, others have cut back their budgets for this type of promotion and others are concentrating on other markets such as Europe and Canada. Until the new SMP and skills list are published there is little point in migration agents building up people's hopes of getting a visa unless they work in the Health area, and we have recently heard of a few nurses and even a doctor being refused a visa. Even the biggest migration events such as the ones we have attended in the past, run by Emigrate Now, have struggled to attract the usual exhibitors who can see little point in spending money in the current environment. We haven't seen the point in booking a stand anywhere for more than 12 months.

 

The phrase 'sustainable' in the new PM's description of the size of the Australian population worries me somewhat as it implies that there will be little lifting of present migration restrictions, while people needing work done on their houses still find it hard to get a plumber/electrician/plasterer/repairman to visit with less than a 6 week wait! It seems that the same line is being taken as in the UK a few years ago where emphasis was placed on training people locally to fill the skills gap. While this is a real necessity, it will only work if people want to be trained in the skills that are in demand, and the rest of us will still have to wait for a while longer for that person to become qualified. I worked for a training organisation in the UK and it didn't work there - employers preferred to employ experienced plumbers etc from the EU and nurses from Africa rather than 'waste' time and money training homegrown teenagers or retraining the unemployed, who were themselves less than interested.

 

It will be an 'interesting' 12 months ahead for new potential migrants, and those who already have their visas should consider themselves extremely fortunate...

I agree, Juliegio, there is no excuse for rudeness and you'd think those still in the game would be trying even harder - obviously not.

Went to the seminar in Kettering on Sunday and it was a wealth of info, no negativity and at least 30+ stands for oz, nz and canada, found out it will be easier for us to move to NZ but some agents there specialising in teaching in OZ said they have schools looking for uk teachers and could get us in quite quickly just need the wife to finish her PGCE and get 1yrs experience.
