I thought it would be a good idea to create a thread to help all who have got their visa's... So you are not worrying about if you have forgotten "to do" something before the big move...

Here is a list of some of the things which you may / may not need to sort out before you fly down under...

  • First & foremost celebrate - get the champagne out!!!

Then...

  • Sell house / Arrange to rent
  • Arrange a TFN (Tax File Number)
  • Apply for a Bank Account
  • Speak to & arrange shippers (decide on boxes or a container)
  • Book flights (& arrange extra baggage allowance if possible)
  • Arrange short term rental for when you arrive
  • Research area's you may want to live
  • Sort out things you own & decide what you are taking or getting rid of

Please feel free to add to the list (copy & paste), as well as any other useful info you think might be relevant...

Hopefully, this will put some minds at rest... (& mine)...

I thought you couldn't get a TFN until you actually were in Aus? Something about the system knowing if you have entered the country or not, what with it all being electronically joined up nowadays?

Our agents were going to organise our TFN's for us but we already have them because we were both in Oz before on WHV... I think ur right (you cant get them before you arrive)... but, it is still something which needs organising so needs to be on a list!!!

Sorry, but you really can't until you are in Oz.

Here is the specific link to get one.

"You can only complete this application if you are apermanent migrant or temporary visitor who is actually in Australia. "

Being totally anal about organising things, I have an excel spreadsheet with around 180 tasks, from start to finish which we're using as a starting post. Which you can filer down to each step!

Yes I do live my life by the 7P's, sad i know!

Happy to share for you to amend to your own requirements.

Just pm me with where you want it sent to.

Cheers

Charlie
