Wondered if anyone could answer this question.

We are years off retiring but just wondered if we stay in Australia, which hopefully we will do if things work out, are we entitled to a UK State pension and is there anything we should be doing about it?

Thanks, Kelly

We were told before we left the UK that they will try to contact us at the last known address they have for us once we get to the right age. So the most important thing is that you keep them informed of any address changes. Hope this helps.

Yeah I was told just before we left just to let them know when we have a permanent address here so they can contact you when the time comes

Hi Kelly,

Yes you are entitled to your UK state pension and you will have it paid into your bank account, when you come to move over to Oz you will need to give them your banking details and new address.

Do you know that when you move over to Oz your pension is fixed at the amount you are entitled to at that date and there are no yearly increases, there is an appeal going through Lords at the moment which may change this hopefully.

Best wishes

Les

You now only need 30 years worth of NI contributions to gain the full state pension.

If you haven't got 30 years then you can make voluntary contributions so as to get 30 years.

Payments can also be backdated, generally for 6 years.

This could potentially be a good time to send money back to the UK to make these payments.

It would possibly be worth waiting until you feel that you are going to remain in Oz for good before you start making these payments though.
