Hi,

I'm new to poms in Adelaide, i and my hubby are planning to move to Adelaide by next yr 2014 not visa arrangement yet. We have 4 boys ( 11, 10, 7 n 2) So was thinking if you luvly people will help me with some questions. My hubby is wellhead service technician in Oil n gas sector, i studied accounting but not worked only for a few yrs in insurance so will it be possible to get jobs in Adelaide? Are there good govt schools? Is Adelaide an expensive city compare to other Oz cities?

Are the people nice, friendly and receptive?

I'm so sorry with all these questions for my 1st post:smile:. We really want a good nice environment for our boys with good quality education and also make some savings at the end of the day.

Thank you all for ur feedbacks!

Hi Claire-n-tel, thanks for the tip up. Will keep you posted once we've settled with MARA agent about which visa type. Just gathering info and considering if it's worth it.

Thanks.

Not sure what you have in mind about making some savings. Migrating is an expensive business, and while some people land jobs on equal/better pay than they were used to, many are worse off financially for several years after making the move.

Comparisons between cities in Aus is hard because (generally) the more expensive a city, the higher the wages. So, what might look relatively inexpensive is likely to even itself out given the lower earning capacity and fewer job opportunities.

Plenty of debate and differing opinions on costs, but personally I find Aus in general an expensive place to be, and becoming more so. A Deutsche Bank survey earlier this year ranked it as one of the most expensive places to live in the world:

However, plenty will dispute that, so it comes down to point of view and personal experience, which can vary massively.

Good luck!
