    Help please!!!!!

Try Corfu apartments, great location and good quality Welcome to Corfu Accommodation, Glenelg, South Australia
  2. Wholeheartedly agree, my background was in HR but found it to be a closed shop in Adelaide, jobs went to a small circle of people who knew each other
  3. Exactly, Adelaide is a relatively small place and the majority of HR people know each other so networking is essential to break into the loop
  4. Many of the suburbs in Adelaide are like this, Adelaide is thought of as a place to retire by other states
  5. Lived there for 3 years, nice suburb, very good pimary school
  6. Central Business District
  7. Buyers want the lowest price sellers want the highest price, at the end of the day the buyer holds the best hand in a declining market, when the market is going up it’s the other way round. If you ‘re selling and stick your feet in in a declining market don’t blame the buyer, if you’re buying in an increasing market don’t blame the seller, at some point we’ve all been on both sides whether is buying or selling a car or haggling over something at a car boot sale. We included fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble drier, beds and all other kitchen appliances toaster, kettle etc
  8. Don’t mean to dampen anyone’s spirits but Adelaide is not an IT city if you want relatively stable employment in this field you might find you will have to move to Melbourne or Sydney. I believe there are problems with the work situation in Canberra where most of the government departments are located. I spent 3 ½ years in Adelaide, looking back now that was probably too long and I should have moved earlier, I was in and out of work until I eventually moved to Melbourne then Brissie. The work situation in Adelaide has always been poor, it’s considered a backwater in other states, there may be some work but is generally limited in each sector. Being such a small city there is a tendency for people in the various sectors to know each other so jobs get given to somebody who knows somebody etc. All I can advice is that if you are struggling to find work in Adelaide but want to stay in Aus don’t stay in Adelaide too long, widen your scope to the other states, many people commute interstate flying back to their home city at weekends. Good luck

  10. Having looked around numerous rentals in and around Adelaide although there were good ones the quality of some left a lot to be desired. From a practical point of view I think it would be far better on initial arrival to stay in short term accommodation, at least until you have had a look around some of the suburbs, rather than committing yourself to a 6 month let and then having to try and get out of it because you don’t like the area, school, location etc. There are some good caravan parks dotted around Adelaide as well as holiday accommodation, although more expensive for a short period they would give you time to get over the jet lag and as a base for looking around for something more permanent and suitable. Looking at it from another point of view knowing what you know about the UK would you rent somewhere in a city in the UK if you had never been there?
  11. Wouldn't dream of renting before getting there some of the places for rent are the pits
  12. Try these apartments very close to the beach , we have stayed in them several times , might be a bit expensive but ok short term www.corfuaccommodation.on.net
  13. Having been in the same situation as you and been through it I would say definately NO, but then again if you don't you will always wander what if
  14. Try http://www.corfuaccommodation.on.net/ Corfu or Marco Polo are the best
  15. Don't expext much work in Adelaide, in the end I had to give up and move to Melbourne then Brissie
  16. Cost of living in Adelaide is roughly in line with the UK, but salaries are considerably lower, we constantly had to dip into savings until there were virtually none left.

    Letting off steam...

Trouble is it's not just a short term struggle it goes on for years and eventually wears you down. If you want adventure it's like giving up your job, selling your house, giving away most of the money and going to live in a rented house with a poorer job and fewer prospects. As for people who say they're doing it for their kids, why do so many young Aussies want to move to the UK but are dissapointed when they have no choice but to move back when their visas expire.
  18. No choice, Brissie, have lived in both, more opportunities in Brissie, more to do and more places to go

    Adelaide or Brisbane

These are just a couple of pros and cons straight off the top of my head Brissie is more what you perceive Aus to be Adelaide gets pretty cold in the Winter More places to go and see in Brissie, e.g Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Noosa, Sydney only 60 minute flight. Don’t feel quite so isolated in Brissie - once you've been to the local places in Adelaide umpteen times you have to travel interstate to go anywhere different Brissie more laid back Brissie can get v humid, Adelaide v dry Gold Coast very commercial Gets dark early all year round in Brissie, not quite so in Adelaide Found to be more mozzies in Adelaide Brissie doesn’t feel so parochial Who you know not what you know in Adelaide

    Adelaide or Brisbane

Lived in Adelaide for 3 1/2 years then moved to Brissie. No question Brissie, Adelaide is a nice city but that's it, no doubt others will disagree, especially seeing as this is Poms in Adelaide!

    Stopover or Not?

Would definately recommend a stopover, have done it several times. Singapore airlines used to do subsidised stopovers with free activities e.g. night safari etc don't know if they still do, but Singapore was excellent

    Off days!!!

Your feelings are perfectly justified, having been through it it is a rollercoaster, it all depends on how you cope as a family with the stresses and strains that are thrown at you, many of which you will not expect. Only time will tell whatever you decide, if you go and stay or come back you will change your life forever. Life is a path with branches and you will have to decide which path to choose, the worst of these paths are where one of you wants to go one way and the other doesn't, it means that somebody has to compromise, this is where resentment, worry and uncertainty makes you question yourself and others. Whichever way it is an experience some good some bad but goes to make you what you are.
