  1. Well all my applications so far haven't even been offered an interview. Just an outright no. Asked for feedback but nothing back. So don't know if it's my application, the fact I'm not yet in Australia or something else. Feeling a little disheartened as can't afford to live in Adelaide for too long without a job and arrive in 12 weeks time :/

Sorry to hear just keep plugging away sticking to their application format. Keep a look out for private hospital nurse jobs as well as SA Health. I think you may stand a better chance in Australia and I dont think they are big on feedback but that's no comfort to you at moment. I know what you mean you couldn't afford too long without job and it's difficult to even go without employment but people do. Persnally I probably couldn't manage for more than a month without a job.

Are you stating in your cover letter you are PR and when you coming to Australia? I would also state you are prepared to arrive early if offered job. The CV and cover letter is your only opportunity to tell them your personal curcumstances.

The way I would approach this is keep applying for everything even if you think it's not for you or suitable. If you get to Australia without a job start applying for all nurse jobs straight away. Even go through recruitment agencies if you have to. While you wait on those applications just apply for other jobs, care work shop work, bar work, anything etc just to tide you over until you get what you want. Personally that's what I would do.

  2. Just to add I set up a migrant Westpac Choice bank account from the UK bout 2 years ago. Monthly fee of $5 a month was waived for 12 months which you don't pay anyway in Australia if salary over $2000 month.I couldn't get to Australia in that time frame so my main point is I emailed the guy who set up the Westpac account and explained my situation. He permanently waived the $5 monthly fee until I actually got to OZ.

  3. You need to show compelling reasons why you never went to Australia, your husband medical condition being the main one. Write everthing down from beginning to end basically tell them your life story. You can apply online $360 per application so Ian needs to apply first then if successful you later. He needs to attach documentated evidence so any medical records or letters. You are still classed as PR and within the last 5 yrs so the best you could hope for is a 1 year RRV.

In regards to jobs you don't necessarily need one but it makes your application stronger as long as you can show compelling reasons.

I managed my first RRV in 2015 after my visa expired 2014,leaving OZ in 2010. I attached emails in my application where I had contacted potential employers. If Ian can try and contact potential employers and attach the promising ones to his application it may do the trick.

  4. Wasn't expecting it to be that quick granted in 5 days. Then again the previous one only took 10 days. Haven't been to Australia since 2010 and my PR visa expired in 2014.I have applied and been granted 2 RRVs since then both online from the UK by myself so I must be doing something right. The previous application I never had a job offer but this latest one I had a provisional offer. If I can advise or help anyone with my experience just ask. Both RRVs were for 1 year because I never did the 2yrs in OZ.

  5. Paul, I've sent you a PM.

    Hi All,

I am planning on moving to Adelaide on a Spouse Visa from London with my wife who is from Adelaide in May/June and have made a tentative attempt to find a job as an insurance broker. I haven't had much of a response although I have over 25 years experience in the industry. I would love to secure employment before I arrive but some of the feedback I have had is that I probably won't be taken seriously until I arrive. So I might have to take a risk and migrate without a job offer.

Does anyone on this forum work in Insurance or can anyone recommend a reliable employment agent particularly those who specialise in insurance or financial services who might be able to help me

    Thanks in advance

    Paul

Hi Paul, good luck with looking for a job in your line of work. It doesn't seem to be all doom and gloom in SA in my line of work health which is being transformed and modernised with jobs http://www.sahealth.sa.gov.au/wps/wcm/connect/public+content/sa+health+internet/health+reform

I managed to get a job from the UK so everything is possible if you search and just send out those CVs and cover letters.

  6. Hi there!

My name is Greg. I am not a Pom, technically speaking! I was born in France, spent most of my life in Belgium and came to Adelaide with my wife in 2009. We became citizens but then decided that it was too hard not to see our friends and family at all (only our mothers would come to see us once in a while). So we decided to move back to Belgium last August (2016).

...and we have been miserable since then!

Well, miserable does not start to describe how we feel right now. Although I am trying really hard to think about what we did not as a mistake, but as something to learn from, bottom line is I cannot help but think of it as the stupidest thing I have done so far.:embarressed:

I guess that now that we have gone full circle we can have rational thoughts about all this: I was not expecting to have become so Australian (and English is not even my mother tongue!), neither to have lost sight of everything that made me Belgian! We feel so out of place now...

We miss the sun, the sea, the skies, the beach, our escapades to Port Elliott, KI, McLaren Vale, Willunga, Stirling, Brighton, Sydney, our holidays in Robe, in Port Douglas, walking barefoot, the streets of Adelaide, the smiles, the positive attitude, the Fringe, our friends there, Chris Lilley, cafes and coffee (OMG... it actually might be what we regret the most :biglaugh:), the energy, the fact that whatever happens to you, it is still kind of ok...

I feel that Belgium has become an awful dump. Everything and everyone is grey here. Sad people, complaining all the time. Customer service wise: WOW...: medieval! Technology? People are freaking out because contactless payment is being phased in. It feels like living in the seventies when you need to pay for something in the shops. Politics? I won't even start. Administration? ***beep***

I could go on for hours but I will not! I need to put my energy in something else:

We now had time to thoroughly think about it and we have made our minds up: we will have to live with the pain of not seeing our family any more, but we are coming back! We have no money left (we spent it on the removal and re-settling here), we probably will rent for the rest of our lives as a consequence, but we just do not care!

It is going to take us a while before we have saved just enough to come back but hopefully no more than another year now.

As I said, I think we did not realize how much we had changed; it only hit us (hard) once here. I want to hug people again, I want to be smiled back at when I smile at people, I want to be asked how I feel, I do not want that social pressure on my shoulders...

I suppose I could say that I still call Australia home, more than ever!

Apologies for this post : it was actually a bit more than a presentation, but I needed that!

If there are people who have gone through the same kind of stuff I would be more than happy to hear from them and share our thoughts.

    Greg

Welcome Greg you are not alone and I can relate to where you are coming from. I wasn't in Australia as long as you were, only a year.Since returning in 2010 I have mostly regretted returning to the UK and always thought I would go back at some point.

I now have an opportunity to return to South Australia but I don't think my wife feels the same

  7. I've finally found some ward jobs advertised, but is there any advice on what I need to include in my application to make me noticed as an international applicant? I'm assuming there will be lots of applicants for each job so want to make sure I get noticed.

Jobs in anything other than theatres/recovery or a nursing home seem to be more difficult to find than I thought they might be.

I put this reply on PIO.

Try SA Health and any other job site that advertises nurse jobs.It might take time but keep plugging away it's not impossible. CVs (resume) is generally the same but Australia likes a cover letter hitting the selection criteria giving examples using STAR (Situation,Task,Action & Result).

I am not a nurse but just managed to get a job offer with SA Health doing just that. They also offered a Skype interview which was a first for me. Had to jump through a few other hoops but all done from the UK.

Good luck and keep on trying as it is still possible to secure a job from the UK even though I realise it is much harder than it was.

If I can help just ask.
