  1. Hi everyone

Mum is currently on a bridging visa (Bridging Visa A) whilst waiting to join the queue for an 804 visa.

I was just wondering if mum was expected to complete a tax return whilst waiting for her visa to be granted (which apparently could be many years!)

Mum is retired, doesn't work, hasn't applied for a Tax File Number and has no intention of working!

Can anyone please advise as to whether the tax return is something that is needed or not?

    Many thanks in advance.

  2. As mentioned, mum got her bridging visa granted last month

We are now just wondering what the next step in the process is...

is it still the case that mum will undergo a medical in approx 12 months time and, after passing the medical, will be placed in the 'real' queue... for however many years it takes to get to her application?!

If the above is the case, and just so I am prepared, what is the situation if mum failed her medical in 12 months time? She is absolutely fine and in excellent health at the moment (touch wood) but I like to keep myself prepared for all eventualities!

    Huge thanks for any advice.

  3. So, after calling immigration, it seems I have managed to get an idea of how long it takes to put the bridging visa in place.

My added worry now though is that we lodged mum's application in Adelaide... and the email I got from immigration says everything must be lodged in Perth! (despite the immigration forms saying it can be lodged at any local immigration office!)

Does anyone know if a) the application will still be valid even though lodged at Adelaide office and b) if so, does this slow the process down hugely?

The application was deposited in the lodgement box in Adelaide but apparently no receipts are given... and we just have to sit with everything crossed :o(

  4. Hi

We lodged an onshore Parent Visa application (804) on Friday... does anyone know how long it takes before you get an acknowledgement and get to know if a bridging visa will be granted? Mum is due to go home in 3 weeks, we are hoping its before then!

Many thanks in advance for any advice

  5. It all depends on your control!

From my experience, with good HbA1c control, it posed me no problems.

I did, however, find that my experience of the diabetes care in Australia did not compare to the care I recieved on the NHS! I found myself emailing my specialist nurse in England on a frequent basis to get the help I needed.

    Good luck :o)

My friend (Caroline) can be contacted directly on 0405 632145

  7. Was looking for $15 for the throw. Sorry, I can't seem to find it on the Ikea website but it is a pinky/maroon on one side and a purple colour on the other.

As for the quilt, it is a couple of years old but has spent most of its time in storage as it was only used when my mum was visiting. Again, not sure of the warmth rate but the filling weight is 60oz... looking on the ikea website this seems to equate to a warmth rating of about 5 ish? Was thinking $30.

    Lastly the coffee table.... $50.

    Cheers

  8. I am moving back to the UK later this year and am wondering if anyone can advise as to the best way to get my money back?

I owe my parents quite a bit (unfortunately!) Am I best sending this back in advance or transferring a larger amount all at once to get a better exchange rate?

Any advice and company recommendations greatly appreciated. :)

  9. We are moving house very soon and have a few bits and bobs looking for a new home. All in excellent condition and from a very clean home!

All offers considered. (We are in the West Lakes area)

  10. Can anyone advise as to a good company to use to send stuff back to the UK? Taking into account both cost and getting stuff back in one piece!

I haven't got a huge amount to send (probably a couple of the tea boxes.)

    Thanks for any recommendations. :D

  11. Does anyone know approximately how long citizenship applications are taking to process at the moment? What is the timeframe from submitting the application, to sitting the test, to approving the application.

Also, does anyone know which council holds the most frequent citizenship ceremonies and/or has the shortest ceremony waiting times?

Many thanks for any info anyone out there can provide! ;)

  12. I have come home tonight to find a $1,100 tax fine on my doorstep for apparently failing to lodge my tax returns for 2006 and 2007.

I called the tax office to explain that I was not resident in Australia at that time, as I returned to the UK in 2003 after spending 1 year on a working holiday visa. I didn't move back to Australia until August 2007.

I was then told that as I had not informed the tax office when leaving Australia in 2003, in addition to the 2006 and 2007 fines, I would also be fined for 2003, 2004, 2005... meaning now looking at a fine of over $2,500! So much for being honest!

I have been told that I can get an extension on paying the fine (which is currently due to be paid Christmas week!) whilst I appeal against the penalty.

Can anyone advise as to the chances of my appeal being successful?
