  1. Hi, I had the same dilemma.

I kept a bank account in the UK and used it for presents. I have found a helpful florist who take s orders over the phone and then delivers to female friends and relatives. Then other companies I have just googled like Laithwaites wine who do a good box of 6 bottles of lovely wine for the men. I find "not on the high street" also good for personalised gifts. Hope this helps. I think gifts are a great way to let loved ones far away know you are thinking about them.

  2. Hi All, We are in Henley beach moving into unfurnished rental on 25 Jan. Our container arrives in 6 weeks, 15 March. We need to borrow a bit of furniture. If anyone would be kind enough to loan us a few items we would be eternally grateful and generous with the beer!

    1 x double bed/ mattress

1x single/ childs bed for 6 yr old

table and 4 chairs, indoor or outdoor.

    sofa or chairs for 4

Duvets and sheets. (Essential in 42 degree heat....)

    Many thanks.

  3. Hi, I am flying to Adelaide on 30 November and am looking for a short term rental for December. We need 2/3 bedrooms for myself, husband and 2 daughters. Affordable price needed too. If anyone hears of anything could they let me know. I am aware of the busy time of year, but have been unable to book sooner due to circumstances. Thanks all.

  4. Thanks Caroline, Yes will just have to be patient. I think that this is a busy time of year to apply. I saw on the AHPRA website that the deadline for those in Australia wishing to renew registrations is in November. Think it will take a few months to go through, but can't see any reason why it shouldn't, I have all the required documents and evidence.

Feeling more positive today. But I am definitely having that roller coaster experience that other emigrants describe. Some parts of the process are very much out of my control, so I have to just go with this. C x

  5. Hi All, I am having a frustrating time trying to obtain my registration with AHPRA. sent my application through 7 weeks ago, was told then that I would be waiting 4-6 wks for processing. Received email this morning telling me I am in a queue and they are currently having high levels of applications form overseas. So, there are currently no timescales available for the processing of applications.

Trying to remain calm and positive, but this gives me nothing to work with at all. Am hoping to move in November, Anyone experiencing the same or similar?

  6. Hi caz and Ian, Yes I have just opened a current account and savings account with NAB. Also a money transfer account with Moneycorps. I'm told NAB has plenty of free cashpoints in Adelaide and the Moneycorps A/C is for transferring money from my UK account to OZ without attracting charges that the banks would charge; (transfer and receiving fees)

I thought it was one more job off the list for when we move before Christmas. The NAB A/C is activated when we arrive in Adelaide. Until then we can deposit but not draw on it.

  7. Hi Mandi, I don't have experience of that hospital. But I am sending you a message of general advice and moral support. There is no need to feel naueous and nervous for this interview. Remember that this employer needs nurses with your skills and knowledge. You would not have been granted your visa unless they felt you were a good prospect.

Read the person specification carefully. I generally use this for the basis of interview questions. Also, consider linking parts of the person spec to examples of your own practice, eg how you relsolved a difficult situation with a distressed patient. And link evidence based practice to your responses if possible, to show your awareness of up to date nursing R+D relating to practice.

Have one or two questions ready to ask them written on post it notes (good idea soccer 65)

Lastly, when the nerves hit... Remember your vocation and the many patients in Adelaide now who are battling with the symptoms and gruelling treatments for that god awful disease called cancer. You can give them hope and make a difference.

So Mrs! Smile at the web cam, shoulders back, **** forward. And let them know you are worth it.

    Best of luck. Cx

  8. Hi Caz, Spoke to AHPRA this morning. They said No it is not necessary to register with both bodies. You just register with AHPRA and do skills assessment with ANMAC. NMB work in combination with and set the standards and criteria for AHPRA. He said that some employers vary in what they put on their job adverts. AHPRA is the required registration.
