  1. But is that any different to how it would have been in the UK? I've just looked at one of my old payslips and 7% of my gross total went to ERNIC deductions. I've never seen a job here quote a salary and a National insurance total seperately so I don't really understand why it would be different? Am I missing something? Are they not just leting you know what your deductions will be before you sign the contract?
  2. http://www.transport.sa.gov.au/licences_certification/drivers/overseas_residents.asp Can't see any mention of 3 months here, have a link to your source? I'm sure you don't need to re-take a test if you have a UK license.
  3. Thankyou Rachiegarlo, I was a bit worried there for a minute!
  4. @Mitchkeza.... Link to Governments 'things to do first list': http://www.immi.gov.au/living-in-australia/settle-in-australia/to-do-first/index.htm @Nicky... If it takes 2 weeks to get a TFN, do you know if it is possible/legal to work in those weeks? I thought it would be pretty much instant to obtain a number and didn't realise it would take that long.
  5. Hey, I'm heading over in about a months time. I'm hoping I have enough room/weight to bring my mizuno's and footjoys over with me. I'm not very good (16 h/cap) but enjoy the occasional knock around. I'll post again when I get there & if I manage to squeeze the clubs in!
  6. Hey, I'll be over there in about four weeks. I'm 25 and heading out on my own, don't know where I'll choose to live yet. I've got a sponsored visa so work is sorted but I'm getting quite nervous about having to make friends with no-one at all to call on. Have been looking through the posts here on and off but it seems to be mostly families with young children doing the move. Well up for meeting up with the younger crowd!
  7. thanks for the replies. It's cleared that up for me.
  8. I'm all about the submarines. Do you know what your mate thinks of the company? Also, a couple of beers sounds good!
  9. ok so its how much will be taken off my pay, it seems a lot for pension though. Being in my twenties, i'm not too clued up on pensions!
  10. hey, update is i've been offered the job and i'm going to accept it. I'll be working for ASC, anyone have any experience of them? (formerly Australian submarine corporation).
  11. Hey, I've got a job offer with a base salary and a 13% "superannuation". I've never heard of this before, what is it? and is there any chance I won't get it? cheers, 2scoops

hi, could you become an australian citizen? I think in my job interview they said my work in marine engineering will require me to become an australian national in order to get the required security clearance level. I hope it is possible.
  14. dunno if i like the sound of that, MOTs sometmes seem like a con especially when there's always something found and its always at least 80GBP to put right but it does give confidence in a cars roadworthyness! I guess it's even more important to check for a service history.
  15. hey, Thanks alot for the welcome. In reply to the questions, I havn't done my "tra" yet, nor do i know what it is! and my work is in marine engineering. I live down in Plymouth but may be up for a meet somewhere sometime. Adelaide sounds cool and the more I read about it, the better it sounds, but I'd like to know why those of you who have no connections or work there choose this city over any other.
