  1. yeah, watch out for that super contribution.... i agreed to a total package which included the 9% super paid by the company... i didn't realise they had to pay it or what it was really and so therefore i received 9% less than i thought i was getting!!

But is that any different to how it would have been in the UK? I've just looked at one of my old payslips and 7% of my gross total went to ERNIC deductions. I've never seen a job here quote a salary and a National insurance total seperately so I don't really understand why it would be different?

Am I missing something? Are they not just leting you know what your deductions will be before you sign the contract?

  2. Hey, I'll be over there in about four weeks. I'm 25 and heading out on my own, don't know where I'll choose to live yet. I've got a sponsored visa so work is sorted but I'm getting quite nervous about having to make friends with no-one at all to call on. Have been looking through the posts here on and off but it seems to be mostly families with young children doing the move.

Well up for meeting up with the younger crowd!

  3. hi,

could you become an australian citizen?

I think in my job interview they said my work in marine engineering will require me to become an australian national in order to get the required security clearance level. I hope it is possible.

  4. its cos there are no MOTs

dunno if i like the sound of that, MOTs sometmes seem like a con especially when there's always something found and its always at least 80GBP to put right but it does give confidence in a cars roadworthyness!

I guess it's even more important to check for a service history.

  5. hey,

    Thanks alot for the welcome.

In reply to the questions, I havn't done my "tra" yet, nor do i know what it is! and my work is in marine engineering.

I live down in Plymouth but may be up for a meet somewhere sometime.

Adelaide sounds cool and the more I read about it, the better it sounds, but I'd like to know why those of you who have no connections or work there choose this city over any other.

  6. hey,

just checked out the red book price guide from another post and it seems used car values are way high. To replace my car i have here in England will be almost double the price.

    Does this seem about right?

Also what is the price of petrol?, I was thinking V8!

  7. hi,

I'm 25 and i may be moving to adelaide by myself.

I've had a couple of interviews with a company over there. As long as there are no problems with migration, they will offer me a job. I'm pretty nervous about it because i won't know anyone for, like, 20000 miles!, but I'm excited about beaches and blue skies.

I've got loads of questions that I hope can someone can help me with but I'll spread them out over the forum boards!

    cheers,

    2scoops.
