Hi Joe and Carrie, myself and my partner are looking at a 189 visa currently getting docs together and hiring a migrant agent.
We were told lots of conflicting things about how to do it. 1 minute we thought it was easy and we could definitely do it and the next minute we thought it would even be possible.
My partner is a painting and decorator of 10 years but no qualifications. He has to do his AQF lll which is an Australian qualification in painting and decorating. We looked at an NVQ in this country but he would of needed 3 years after the qualification for it to count. Once he has done this which only consists of paperwork and a skype call (we hope) he will get his qualification and then we can put the paperwork forward for a skills assessment. I'm not sure if this applies to the Nursing qualification but speak to a migrant agent they can give you an idea of what you might need to look into.
The migrant agent has explained that with my partners 10 years they'll take 3 years off for his qualification and then he'll be left with 7 years, only 5 of which the skills assessment team will take account for. They accept 10years, 8years and 5years all of which you get different points for. He has to do the IELTS test to get the extra points we need to get the 60points for the 189.
I hope this helps you in some way. I'm hoping someone can help me with some questions and queries on here too.
Good luck.
