buy another case (if your allowed more than 1 per person), or use bigger hand luggage.

It must be hard trying to cram it all in at 20Kg's, we brought 155 KG's for a family of four!

Hi

Its quite cold here at the moment so you could try putting on some layers!!!!! Not funny I know, I remember trying to get our cases to 20 kilos each and the stuff we had to leave behind was ridiculous. We flew with Singapore and were over on each of 5 cases by a few kilos but they just put them through, we were amazed. I know people who box stuff up and send them by sea mail, takes a while but relatively cheap, would that be an option?

Good luck.

Hi there! A lot of people don't know this but many airlines will double your baggage allowance if you prove that you emmigrating eg you can show them your unused visa etc. I'd call them beforehand and ask what their policy is.

I wouldn't worry too much tho. In 15 years of travelling, I've never packed less than 32kgs in each suitcase and I've never had a problem. This is the maximum weight the airline will allow the baggage handlers to pick up so as long as you're under, you should be ok. Just say hello to the check in person, give them a big beaming smile, make sure you ask them how they are and thank them profusely, lol!! Good luck!!! :)

We flew with Qantas and brought 30kilos each because we were migrants but we informed them before we flew, didn't just turn up at the airport with it all, if you know what I mean. You should be allowed a larger allowance, but check with Cathay Pacific. We're from Hull too. Tigers not doing so well are they?!

Hi, I flew Cathay Pacific here last June on a 457 Temp Working VISA.

Any Airlines allowing doubling of luggage allowance is purely down to wether you have a Permy VISA in place. If your on a Temp VISA then it doesn't apply & your restricted to the 23 Kilos or whatever it is.

The weight restrictions are a pain, especially when you consider you can go to the States with twice the allowance.

Your best bet is to use Cathay Pacifics unaccompanied luggage service ( this should arrive a couple of days after you land ). I had loads of specialised sports equip to bring over ( about 78 kilos ) , & looked into using a courier that my previous employer had an account with, & they couldn't match Cathays price.

I bought the largest hand luggage cabin bag i could find,( chk Cathays website for luggage sizes & weight allowances ) & filled that up to the limit. I think it's about 12 Kilos. I also maxxed out my chkd in luggage.

I personally wouldn't risk rocking up at the chkin counter over weight unless your prepared to pay for the excess, which will be at a far higher rate than their Unacompannied Luggage rate.

My only other advise would be NOT to declare any goods you bought within the last 12mths, as the cheeky B@$trds will sting you on duty. Youv'e payed the VAT once !!!

Hope this helps.
