Hi, we're not big gamblers but we married in Vegas and just love the whole fun vibe you get in the Vegas casinos. We were wondering what the Adelaide casino was like? Is it more like UK ones that you have to become members of or are you just able to pop in off the street and have a flutter?

Cheers

Woody and Jane.

When I first went there in 1992 it was the place to go, full of people of all ages with lots of blackjack tables and a big crowd round the 2 up. Nowhere near as glitzy as Vegas but a good place to go at the end of an evening out in the city. Last time we visited back in 2004 it had really gone downhill, it seemed rather shabby, there were loads more poker machines and it was full of old people playing the pokies. The atmosphere was totally different. You can just walk in off the street so there's no harm in checking it out, it might have lifted its game since then.

No way is it much like Vegas.

No membership required - just have to be over 18.

It has been refurbed in the last few years but not ver well.

"Proper" gambling such as Roulette tables are disappearing to may way for even more poker machines.

On the upside they do have some great food and entertainment in there.

It not as glam as you'd like but has some interesting characters and sights.

Often if there is a full wedding in the city you will see the bride and groom and the entire wedding party walking through the casino and having a drink (seems like a custom here).

We've had some really fun nights there + won a little at the tables.

We are off tonight as we've not been in ages, looking at the Skycity website there have been a few more changes.

Talking of which................

We were there a few weeks ago. Had dinner in the restaurant first which is $33 a head for buffet/carvery....3 courses and a good choice of food.

I'm not a big gambler but enjoyed the Roulette...changed over $30 and quit when I had $60, so they won't be doing any refurbishments on my money. Few cards tables but a lot of pokies...nice to try once in a while for a night out

Sounds like a decent night out, I like the fact you can just wander in. Looking at the website it says you get free tea, coffee and soft drinks while you’re playing. Not quite Vegas where you can get alcoholic drinks free too but it’s a step in the right direction.

We arrive in Adelaide on November 5th so will no doubt be popping in to see it for ourselves in our first month or so. Thanks for all your comments.
