Medibank - why am I paying private medical insurance?

Have been paying Medibank private insurance and extras for 5 months now - at a cost of $242.55. I think the extras is a good idea and is worth the $73.95 per month. As I have claimed contact lenses from this.

It seems that Medicare seem to pay for alot of services, blood tests, ear and nose specialist etc , but with a gap. So what is the point of the private insurance?

really the only point is for private hospital and optical, dental, physio, etc. It covers the gap charges for you. Try Mutual community basic extras.

You can find lower cost private health if you really only use if for your contacts but make sure you keep ambulance cover as ambulance costs start from around $800 for an emergency
