Finn Peacock has a great site that gives lots of unbiased information on solar power, he's Adelaide based as well.

Approximate Costs of Bigger Solar Systems After Rebates.

The wide variation in pricing is mainly down to the quality of the hardware used. To use a car analogy (as most people are more familiar with car brands than solar power brands!) expect the lower price range to be "Hyundai/Kia" level brand and the upper price to be "BMW/Lexus" level brand. I'll leave you to decide if BMWs are worth paying more for than Hyundais!

As at January 2012

2kW : $3,500 - $6,500

3kW : $5,500 - $9,500

4kW : $8,000 - $12,500

5kW : $11,000 - $16,000

10kW: $20,000 - $35,000
