renewing british passport

Hi all

Im due to renew my british passport and noticed the post office no longer assist and its all done online. Can anyone tell me if it has to be countersigned by a professional ...im not quite clear on the online instructions. Thankyou

P.s its just a normal adult passport

I had mine done with recently and the only thing that needs signing is your new photo if you look significantly different from your current photo, I felt I did so got a friend to do it (they have to have known you for three years which can be tricky if you've only just moved here!). It was really easy and quick, I got it back within two weeks, not particularly cheap but then what is!
