We arrive next Sunday, and need to buy a lot of things such as bedding, crockery and goodness knows how much more stuff. Could do with knowing what the best department store is for general house hold things and soft furnishings, can get all my basics from ikea, but could do with a John Lewis/ M&S equivalent, just to save driving round for hours on end. Thanks

Dan

I always quite liked Myer for stuff. Seemed a bit more up market.

David Jones perhaps?

Check out their websites and see if the stuff they are selling compares well enough for you. I'd head to Myer as a first port of call if it were me arriving. I shop John Lewis here and found the Myer stores to be decent.

Bedding wise its way more expensive buying in Aus. But if you are buying Aussie beds then Aussie bed linen will be the exact right size at least. Towels also are not cheap. If you are shipping, I'd buy as cheap as you can till your bedding/towels arrive. With it getting warmer also you won't be needing massive thick duvets or anything now. At least I hope not.

A cheaper, but still good quality, alternative might be Harris Scarfe. They usually have discounted manchester, kitchen items etc. Here's their catalogue:

and when I was looking for that one, I found this:

So you can compare prices - although I don't buy many Kmart homebrand items as they can be a bit variable performance wise :( but that's just my experience!

Don't discount Target or Big W or even the cheap shops as you can find bargains in any of them. Particularly if you are only looking for short-term replacements for container items.

Hi

Target, Kmart, BigW and dont forget Spotlight....all do great value bedding/linen/towels.... Those stores seem to take it in turns to have offers on their stuff. I bought a lovely Queen duvet set from Target last week...it was originally $119 (I remeber wanting it then, but a bit priccey)...then the line was discontinued and then I found one in their clearance stuff for $58...which then had 30% off so, got it for a bargain price of $41!!

Freedom also do nice some nice bedding - I always wait for the sales though.. http://www.freedom.com.au/
