Car hire - Melbourne to Adelaide

OH's family are visiting in July. They are flying into Melbourne. We are going to fly over there to meet them then hire a car to drive back here along the Ocean road.

Wondering if anybody knows of any hire companies with reasonable oneway rates?

 

We were going to use our frequent flyer points to get to Melbourne but the oneway rates for car hire are really expensive so thinking its may be better to drive both there and back.... unless anyone knows different?

If you do go both ways watch out for the mileage limit!! Could work out very expensive if you go over!!!

All hire companies charge relocation fees due to the return costs of the vehicle however you can relocate a vehicle for them and they will in many cases pay for some of your fuel costs and insurance. Most of the relocs are for campervans and motorhomes but what a great way to do the GOC! These relocations can be fraught with a little uncertainty from time to time but value for money you can beat it.

Try Europcar - they have an office in the city on North Terrace and you can book online. The smaller, private companies will have issues with having to get the car back, so you will need a company with offices in both places. My folks used these and were happy with them.
