Hope someone could shed some light on this as we can't make our minds up if its worth shipping our car (Freelander) to Australia. We know it would have to be spotless and we could get a big enough container to take a car as well. Checked the prices of Freelanders over there and they do seem fairly expensive to what I've got. Be a shame not to take it as it would be perfect for us. Also what is the procedure of registering a overseas car and cost???? Thanks

We done Melbourne to Adelaide in January over three days via the ocean road. Don't rush it as its a stunning drive and a great three days. We had our 4 year old son with us and yes it is a fairly long drive but he was as good as gold plus there is some great places to pull in and see!! Well worth it and can't wait to get back!!

Funny that I have just got of the phone to my agent and been discussing the same thing. We are running two visas side by side to make sure we are sucessfull!. We gained our state sponsorship so applying for the 475 but at the same time applying for a 175 visa as well. He has advised us to do this as the 175 could take sometime (at least 18 months!!) plus if they do cut the numbers into Australia we have the 475 to fall back on. The only problem is the cost!!!

We are planning for Nov this year so no probs there. I think if you are planning for Sep 2010 then you will have to apply again for your sponsorship, not sure but have a word with your agent they should know!! Good luck and keep us up to date!

Hi, we are in a very similar situation. We recieved our sponsorship on Tuesday but we plan to go hopefully in November. I think!! you have to activate your visa within a year as your medicals will be valid for that time. We have a meeting with our agent on Wednesday so hopefully going to clear these things up. They give you 60 days to lodge your visa application so don't worry to much as that will take time to come through. Keep in touch as we are on the same visa and timescale!

We have just found out we are expecting another child in September. We are in the middle of apply for visas, would this effect anything?? Also could someone tell when your visa comes through how long do you have to activate them. PS Just returned from a 3 week stay in Adelaide and can't wait to get back!

Good luck!! We are in a similar situation. We are coming over to Adelaide on the 20th Jan for 3 weeks. We are staying with friends who made the move over two years ago. They love it!! I have have had my skills back and now just waiting for a offer of sponsorship to come, which fingers crossed will be soon! Sitting here thinking of what a big move it is but I know it is the right one!!

Just to make you guys feel better I am sitting here at work in the UK and its 3oc. Its 2pm in the afternoon!!!!!!! When we come over for 3 weeks for a reccie in January thats when the hot weather will arrive........I NEED IT!!!

Ok this seems to be the best option for us but I need some answers to my questions Do I need my skills assessed? Is it worth going with a agent? If(I'm praying!!) I get my visa what period of time do I have before I have to enter? Any help please would be grateful Thanks
