I think you are entitled if only one of you is working and on an average wage, you will get family tax benefit (fam allowance) from the second you step off the plane so claim as soon as you can as it can take up to 4 weeks before you get anything, but they will back date to the initial phonecall, i'ts also means tested and they will ask for an estimate of your yearly pay, which you can alter any time your circumstances change, if you are entitled to rent assistance it will be paid with your tax benefit every fortnight. You will need to contact Centrelink by phone to get the ball rolling.

We use SGIC too and have just had a claim for contents paid in just 1 week, and kept our no claim bonus, all done over the phone and 1 email, very efficient.

Hi all we are breaking our lease in Sept and just wanted PIA to know it's a lemon, please email or pm me for the address so you know to steer clear as i'm not sure if I can put the address on here publicly.
Quick rundown.....aircon does not work, heating does not work, the electrics keep tripping, lounge lights hanging out of ceiling and are not safe (we use a lamp) no smoke alarm fitted downstairs it's been removed, garage leaks and the front door lock sometimes won't unlock from the outside as tumblers stick, no window coverings in bathroom so you have to shower in the daytime or at night with the light off....etc etc etc. So please give this property a wide berth.

We also used them, no probs, we put a bounce dry tumbledry sheet in every bag and 8 weeks later the stuff still smelled lovely and fresh. We suckied every bag and left them a few days any that blew back up we threw out and replaced. Also if you can buy a few sets of sheets for each bed as they are expensive over here even for poor quality. Have fun and safe journey xx

Deli meat is fine as long as you don't get the over-processed stuff like chicken loaf, bung fritz, a better alternative is leg ham off the bone, champagne ham and silverside. They are nicer IMO if you ask for them shaved. My kids take butties most days, sometimes they will take quiche, it's healthier if you make it without pastry, and they enjoy just salad with cheese chunks in a small container. They like the little packets of dried fruit as well.

Victor Harbor is nice, main shopping street a couple of pubs, cafe's and beautiful views, there is also the horse drawn tram to granite island and the Anchorage pub is also a hotel.

Try transcorp, they do backloading so could be a little cheaper, the guy I spoke to is called Brenton. Hope this helps x

We are in the same boat, since November, engineer says heating is working, we say it's not as it only blows cool/warm air, certainly not hot enough to heat the house. Had same prob in summer, engineer says its working but still blowing cool/warm air, it was over 50 deg upstairs in summer, we had to camp out downstairs in the sleepout/office as it has a small aircon unit that actually works. We have been advised by the ocba to fill in a form 7 and a fee of $35 to the rent tribunal who can force them to fix to an acceptable standard or fit new, we are waitin, the lease is up Nov so will be out before anything is done.

We also use sgic for home contents, the car and landlords ins, and you get a discount for having extra policies with them.

Same thing happened to us, allowed 40 kg each, no prob on singapore to sydney but internal connecting flight only allowed 20kg, we ended up getting the train as they allow 40 kg, would this be an option for you?

Must admit very rare I ate fish/cod in the uk, but I do like the butterfish over here, a place in the Collonades does it with chips, coleslaw, slice of lemon and tatar sauce for $6.50, not bad, just wish more places would do proper fresh chips, seriously thinkin of openin me own plaice.
-
Frozen chips seem to be the norm over here yuck! been to brownys but the chips let him down apart from that it's one of the better places we have been, will have to have brown sauce on me chip butties till he starts doin curry, I'd even settle for a decent gravy...

Thanx, my daughter is ok she was a little shaken up at first but is ok now, the only injury she recieved was a sore ear where she was caught on the side of her head, the main girl in question was suspended almost immediately and indefinitely, pending further enquiries. The head addressed the whole school today and said they would not tolerate this sort of thing. How they will acheive this I don't know!

Not a chance i'm afraid, you will have to start again from scratch, I had to take the theory before I could drive and passed on my 3rd attempt, but had been driving for 3 mths on my uk learners, which is legal, but the lady processing me nearly had a heart attack, that was in NSW so could be different here. I did not think to bring proof from my driving instructor so you may have a chance, make sure it states exactly how many daytime hours you have driven and how many night time hours. Hope this helps x

Most schools would rather you were here as they are zoned, so depends where you get your rental etc. You phone the school and ask to take a look around, you have a look and if you like it they give you the forms for you to fill in or some will help you to do it, and then they start school a couple of days later, it's really simple and no fuss.
your son could do rec from Aug/Sept to Dec and then year 1 from the end of Jan, or you could just enrol him for year 1 as you are allowed 3 mths to find a school, hope this helps. xx

At the end of the day, only you can know what feels right for you and your family and what is important at this particular point in time.
Like foxy said how long do you have left on your visa to make a decision!

My kids were 10, 12 and 19 when we came over and they loved it, even the eldest, he wanted to try everything and go everywhere. My dad had died a few years previously, but my mum was still around, she ended up in a wheelchair, then had to have her leg amputated all the while suffering from dementia, but we still upped sticks. She passed away a year later, almost to the day we emigrated. I flew back for the funeral and to be with my brother. I don't regret not being there and I certainly don't regret being here. I put my husband and my kids first.
Don't let the kids put you off coming over as they change their minds more than their underwear. Schools are a lot more laid back and they learn about life as well as maths n english etc, they are at a good age to make the move, the eldest two would be at the same school as they only start high school at 13 here. I would honestly say "bite the bullet" they WILL thank you for it later.
Best of luck and keep us posted. xx

Hubby applied after 6mths we had bought our own house, car etc and they said no, I phoned a couple of days later and they said yes, did it all over the phone, hubby actually called in at the bank. It all depends on who you get. Leave it a couple of days and try again.
Would you buy or even dare wear one??
