After reading the thread I just called my migration agent that which month is immigration picking. I talked with receptionist and she told me they are picking files after a year now. She didn't give me any detail but said there is something changed in department which is affecting all cases. Sorry can't provide anymore details. Anyways I am going to India next week for 6 weeks hopefully some miracle happen before I come back.

    When did you apply @Skaur

Hi @Nsingh🙂 I think,  a good move for you to talk to a migration agent, just book 1 hour consultation,  $200...

I think, if you cannot "squeeze" 1 year full time regional work before your 489 runs out,  there is an option to reapply for another 489, like an extension.  But looking at dates, you both should be OK for working and living requirement, so no need to panic.

You can be main applicant for 887 because you will have 1 year regional full time work by the time of application for 887.

But looks like your partner also will accumulate 1 year regional full time work working for uber by the time of application,  is it correct?  🙂 he already has 5 months up his sleeve from working for previous employer in 2017.  🙂

@Nsingh I agree with @Russki here, its best to talk to migration agent. Sometimes we assume lots of things and start the never-ending worry game, just because someone else had assumed in the past. Its best to talk to a professional to come out of the situation.Good Luck!!!

  3. Hi All,

If some of you remember, I raised the 887 application processing delay through my local federal MP Dr. McVeigh in October. Here is the response I got from the Immigration Department today. Sharing with you all. I really appreciate the office of my local MP to take the issue all the way to the department.

    Hi Chandra,

You need to put this question to the following thread.

The answer was already given in my previous reply. The English test result expiry is linked to the day of making an visa application, not a processing time at all.

Refer to the language requirement in the immigration website,  it is clearly written.

I will repeat again, 'Don't need to worry about taking the IELTS exam again'

    Thank you.

It only takes a few hours to complete the 489 visa application. You can add some more documents later on after submitting application. Don't be too stressed, so long as your friend submit the application with the valid English test, it's not a big deal at all.

Of course, your friend has not been done anything without preparing the required documents, it might takes a big longer, but won't take more than a week in my experience.

Congratulation and I wish your friend get the visa grant shortly.

    Hi Kevin,

Thanks for the response. I guess he is worried because it will take 6-8 months to process 489 visa, and CO might come back saying that his IELTS has expired, does he really need to take or prepare for taking a new IELTS score?

Or it does not matter all as long as once he has submitted application with valid score?

    How come?! I don't understand!!!! 😞🙄

@Russki , I could totally see it coming. Read a post of Sunnysideup where @Sunnysideup suggested that all of us while waiting for grant should "have an affair", "hire an escort", and "keep a mistress". Sunnysideup asked for it, in my opinion.

Anyways, I have just renewed my NPC and the PCC. I spoke with my agent, he said most likely my application will be opened in February, so I am crossing my fingers.

What do you mean by paid maternity leave? If you mean, pay by your employer, that depends on your employer totally. If it is paid by your employer then there is no dependency on your visa irrespective of what visa are you in.

If you mean paid maternity leave from centerlink then you should be a PR holder when you deliver a baby.

Centrelink payments are changed from 1st of January 2019. I think you need to wait for 1 year if the PR is granted after 1st of January 2019 for the paid maternity leave from centrelink.

Thanks deftown. I am thinking along the same lines that whatever parental leave my employer offers should not be affected by the visa status.

I have one more question, I believe @Tpsk has discussed this in the past, Centrelink waiting time is for PR migrants who "arrived" in Australia (from offshore) after 1st January, 2019, or it applies to anyone who got PR granted after 1st January, 2019? Has anyone tested waters yet?

    Thanks once again.

Can anyone pls advise, I will apply 887 in April this year. However, my 489 won’t expire until 2021, in this case, will I get a bridging visa in this April? I thought I can apply for Medicare in April but I might be wrong... please help

    Hi Nudgee,

You are entitled to Medicare as soon as you apply for PR visa. Take your 887 application confirmation with you to Medicare and get yourself enrolled.

and can anyone clarify this for me in the website of immi,

    https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-listing/skilled-regional-provisional-489/designated-areas-of-australia

it states the region for visa 887.

but on the website for visa 887

    https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-listing/skilled-regional-887

it states you can live everywhere in Australia.

so what is the area that we can live under visa 887?

    Hi Dragon,

With 489 visa, you can only work in those regions (regional areas, depends on state/relative sponsored you for the 489 visa).

Once you have successfully lived (for 2 years) and worked (for 1 year) in one of those regions, you will fine for 887 visa.

Once the 887 visa is granted, you can live "Anywhere in Australia".

I don't know what is confusing you?
