  1. Have you tried Bench? They do Gas pipe main laying? MR was gas main layer and got all jobs through SOS employment agency and Randstad contact Shaun Mansell.. got offered permanent work through them. Also found a post someone had reccommended Active Tree Services, apparantly they're always recruiting but offer permanent work...good luck.
  2. Am volunteering at the school too cliffy, but nothing doing. keep trying I suppose!
  3. Hi, Having a bit of a hard time finding work here, can anyone help? finding it difficult to get work even in supermarkets and not sure why. Have been a stay at home mother for approx. 7 years with a bit of tutoring work done in that time. I'm currently volunteering at Marion Council to build up aussie references, have got certificates in Microsoft packages, got my child safe environments certificate and about to do Apply First Aid, but having absolutely no luck, even got turned down by Bunnings, not even short-listed. Ideally looking for SSO or recruitment work...but can't get in without experience. Please help with any advice, not able to afford luxury of volunteering for much longer!
  4. are you going to regret this if you don't do it??? Internet is invaluable in researching the area, cheaper properties mean rougher areas.... look at smaller city living, Norwood Park is lovely, very boho. At least if you find a 6mnth rental you can get to know area, outer suburbs etc. Aussies are very animal friendly, you might just have to be squashed in until you find your feet. Adelaide very cosmopolitan and you'll have no problem being recieved, everyone is friendly and almost everyone has a connection to UK so it opens conversations well. there is a website www.meetup.com/cities/au/adelaide that have lots different groups that arrange meet ups around the area based on your interests, this got reccommended to me. regarding the plane, I travelled economy with 2 kids one 5 and one 2...was fine , you will be too. Book on-line in UK it was much cheaper, I flew with Singapore Airlines. Really reccommend! Left UK with husband and family after having very few prospects left, Mr came out with job in September I followed beg Dec with kids. We'd visited 7 years ago, Mr's family live here, and we always wanted to come back. No regrets yet........!

    Kylie :)

  6. Hi, we arrived beginning of Dec and I know what you mean with head spinning...! Am lucky (I think) to be staying with hubbys family near Playford temporarily, then going to Modbury Heights area when we've got a house deposit saved. We have boy 5 and girl of 2, and no friends as such at the moment. Am hopefully sorting out part-time work (as English tutor) in New Year and Mr works on the gas mains full-time, so lots free days at the moment with my in-laws, need I say more. Send me a message if you'd like to meet up, I've got transport and I'll give you my mobile to arrange if you're interested. Kylie (37, with Andy 41 and Jack and Hope)
  7. I know its rough, visited approx. 6 yrs ago. Not looking forward to area that much, but means to an end and the bigger picture and all that. In-laws have lovely house there and are saying area is going under a re-generation programme...is this just a ploy?? liked Modbury, just concerned about being able to afford in the area, can I get son into a Modbury school whilst living (temporarily ) in Smithfield?
  8. Hi, replied to post but went further down, still getting used to site )
  9. Thanks, he does gas at the mo, have emailed Envestra but no reply as yet. He can do cable laying and has qualifications for that over here (streetworks etc). Can also do water mains...any help or contacts would be appreciated! Kylie
  10. Not looked at jobs yet, I'm an apprentice hairdresser and OH does utilities, what's the CBD? How far is Salisbury from Smithfield...far enough???
  11. Yes, I know a year with in-laws, but people I am trying to be positive!!!! And there is always red wine!!! Can't buy now due to lack of cash and jobs, only been renting in the UK as we can't afford to get on property ladder... looking to save for deposit. Just heard intake runs from May in SA, is that right and how strict are they on these zones.... Will need to make friends asap to help with stress of in-laws...feel free to invite us to bbq, we are quite nice, apologise now for Husband :0)....
  12. Hi, We are hopefully coming over to live beginning 2012 when (and if!) my visa is granted. Have 2 kids (5 and 1) and aussie husband and we're planning on moving in with in-laws for about a year before buying own home. My dilemma is this.... in-laws have lovely home but its in Smithfield Plains and am very reluctant to put 5 yr old son in a local primary school as worried about area. On internet we've been looking for affordable housing and quite like salisbury heights, so son will need to commute for a time. Is this realistic? Are there any other nice areas where we could afford to buy? (Modbury bit expensive, Elizabeth too cheap and daggy!! just learnt that word!) would be looking for 3 bed house with garden Would need to be near-ish to in-laws but far enough away that they couldn't 'pop by'.......hmmm And don't want to uproot son from school after initially moving over so needs to be near-ish to smithfield plains Not bothered about being near sea or swimming pool etc. Any advice really welcome...... Visa has been submitted, medical booked Weds 17th August, been told 5-6mnths to process.....woohooo!
  13. Cheers mate, will do. Don't know anything about the pay do you? Andy

Not sure what to do regarding work prospects either! Kylie:smile:
