In order to be eligible for the grant of an 887 visa, you must have lived in a specified regional area for at least two years as the holder of a relevant visa at the time you lodged your application. A two year period equates to 24 months or 730 days.

To satisfy 887.212 the main applicant must have lived in a specified regional area for a total of at least two calendar years while holding one of the provisional GSM visas or bridging visas associated with an application for a provisional GSM visa. Any time spent living in a specified regional area while in Australia on another visa cannot be counted.

If anyone's planning to apply and has been on a long holiday I would strongly recommend to make up your overseas visit days and only apply,  Thank you.

I totally agree. Wait for few more weeks to compensate is worth because we spent 2 years to live and work hard in regional area.

Must not take any risks at this stage 🙂

    Hi everyone,

This may be repeated question being asked many times. But, much appreciated with your valuable answers.

My 489 was grated on 16 June 2017 and I lodged 887 on 21 June 2019.  I have traveled overseas for 41 days (6 weeks)  (single trip) and this covers under my annual leave and being paid.

Does it satisfies the 2 years residency or any breach in the residency condition?  I am living in Adelaide from 4 years and still living in SA only and working in Permanent full time position from 4 years. I have used 22 of my annual leaves for my vacation (41 days).  I have all rental agreements and payslips from last 4 years.

I didn't get any clear instructions anywhere regarding the length of period, just saying holidays under annual leaves are fine. I have applied through agent and he said it should be all right and no need to wait for 6 weeks to lodge 887, so lodged as soon it completes 2 years.

Please advise, I am bit worried now.

    Thanks in advance.

In my opinion, you will be fine. There are following reasons:

1-You have evidence documents to proof for your time you are on holiday. Although CO knows exactly how long you went oversea , from the time you submitted until they process, it takes more than a year so I think CO will not strict this.

2-You already applied and was consulted by agent, so do not worry. The application was done, just try to keep update your information that Immi needs, such as Notice of Assessment/Payment Summary and Superannuation report at end of financial year, updated contract for your rent (if have), PCC, AFP.

"To make sure 100%, do not hesitate to email or call to Immigration Department" They can give the advice.

    Good luck mate

    Congratulations mate.

    Hi expert,

I applied in June 2018, first contact on 24 June 2018 for AFPC. After that no response yet. My 489 visa will expire on Feb 2020. Any suggestions for me.

I was really frustrated with the processing time. Feels like killing me every day, waiting for the grant. Should I lodge any complain?

    Hi Raj00,

According to the track, you should receive the Grant within this week. You can lodge the complaint early next week if still not having grant.

    Good luck mate.

Did you apply exactly after 2 years or did you fulfil the time of those 4 weeks that you went overseas?

We went oversea after lodging Visa 887.

Because of moving, there are around 2 weeks I lived in Airbnb house and 1 week in my friend house. I did not count this 3 weeks as it does not have the supporting documents and I do not want to include it in as it will increase my application files. Not worth it.

  6. Grant grant .. Direct grant at 2pm

I would like to share my information.

No. of Applicant: 3 (family with kid 3.5 years old, my son born oversea, came in Australia when he was 3 months old)

    Applied Date: 19/09/2018

Updated the AFP for both and upload on 18/09/2019

Updated Oversea Police Check on 15/11/2019 (we went oversea twice, totally 4 weeks only. Update just in case)

My kid does not need the Medical test as he took when applied 489 Visa

Documents I submitted are the one noted on the document checklist on homeaffair website. I do recommend check the document checklist few times to make sure you uploaded all the requested documents. The step-by-step on the link https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-listing/skilled-regional-887#HowTo is useful.

I also received the generic automatic email sent by Homeaffair on 20/09/2019. I uploaded the updated AFP on 18/09/2019. I think the automatic email is set up before that and recognised I did not upload the updated AFP.

    CO: Andries

Hope you guys here will have grant soon.

    Cheers

@nxtung so you mean say mentioned other name in other given name section in application form. Case officer just listed two name, the one in the passport and other one is in my marriage certificate

If the case officer already asked for specific name, just do as their request.

However in general, all the names on the submitted documents need to declare on AFP report.

@Maxzone and other senior members plz suggest me .the case officer mentioned two different name of my wife and asking for new afp. So, question is do I need to mentioned second name on details of applicant section ( other given names) section. Plz have a look my attachments

    Hi Liveyourlife,

I think you should put all other names. Check your documents which has your wife's name. It is the suggestion for another name.

I list few other names as some letters just show the 1 letter of my first name or 1 letter of my middle name. So I just put in the list. I think you list up to 20 other names.

can we move to other regional areas after completing 2 years of commitment in the sponsored regional area.

Under the visa 489 condition, you are allowed to live in all regional areas which is listed on your granted letter.

However, each region has the different requirements. As I know, some regions require to live for at least 2 years, other regions allow to move to other regions without any requirements. Make sure check with your sponsored region before moving.

    Hi Nxtung,

I applied for release letter in July 2016 and we moved to Geelong in August 2016.

    Thanks.

I moved to VIC in early Sep 2017 after living and working in Dubbo 1 year.

    Hi Dave,

I think few regions do not allow us to move to the other regions in the first 2 years. They have the requirements since we apply the 489 visa.

Make sure you read all requirements from the regions which sponsored you before moving to other regions.
