  2. We move into our new place next weekend and we've just found out our container is going to arrive early!!! So we just want a tied me over bed. Can anyone lend us a double blow up or anything similar? We have a car and can pick up, it would be hugely appreciated.
  3. That's really incredibly helpful! So if for example a days childcare was 50 dollars irelevent of what we earnt we would get a rebate of 25? Is this only with certain childcare centers or can it be any childcare?
  4. OK thanks, we're in Fullarton for a few weeks so any idea what the best paper is to get? Sorry if this is the most ridiculous question!
  5. Hello, We've just arrived and are looking for all kinds of bits and bobs to get us started.. Fridge, booster car seat, toys for 3-4 year old, pots / pans, kettle, dining table / chairs, bikes, any outdoor stuff we can use inside for now then transfer out in the summer.. please let me know if you selling or having a clear out.
  6. Hello everyone, So we're on day 5! I've been to meet the new boss and we're trying to find a rental asap.. hopefully in a few weeks we can relax a bit. We really need to get childcare in place for my 3 1/2 year old little boy (but need the rental first). I'm really confused about finding the best option for him, we've popped into a kindie and they said he would start in Feb, the fees seem pretty high there. I've been told by a few ex pats that we will be eligible for government assistance with childcare but I'm struggling to find this information anywhere. My husband has taken a job that is a few steps below his uk post so this is a fairly important that we watch the pennies for the time being. Any information would be helpful or even a cuppa with someone that's gone through this?
  7. Thanks Guys, that's really helpful. We're a little like the walking dead today. I'll definitely email the agents directly, also if anyone knows of any helpful facebook groups for adelaide that may help as I'm thinking perhaps if there are any private landlords around they could be easier?
  8. Hello, we have just arrived in Adelaide, literally 3 hours ago. We had a 3 month house sit arranged starting next week and they have just emailed to say they've changed their minds! (Thanks for doing that on our first night!). We now need to find a rental megga fast or another sit. Can anyone suggest where we start? I'm feeling a bit sick due to our sudden need for extra budget!
  9. Hi everyone, We are house swapping with some SA peeps before we come over, we'd agreed they could use our car but now I'm having a nightmare to try and get them insured! My insurance with Shielas Wheels wont cover it and Aviva have quoted £620 for a month!! Any ideas???
  10. Oh just a little add on.. Does free cycle or something similar operate in Adelaide?
  11. Hello everyone, So its almost time for me, the hubby and little one to start our new life in Adelaide. I'm pretty frantic still with my to do list. 39 sleeps!

Hello there, We're on 22 sleeps so we'll see you there...
  13. Hi Blossom, thanks for your reply, I'll have a look at that site. We will be visiting the UK at Christmas so I did wonder about holding off then seeing if we want to ship at that stage. I wonder if anyone has done that?
  14. Hello everyone, I'm in dire need of some advice on this issue. We're due to come out at the start of June, we have some worked lined up but money will be tight for a little while due to all the initial outlay. We have a 5 week house sit arranged at first and then well be looking for a 2 or 3 bed place. What I'm really torn about is weather we should ship our stuff (which is a sofa, kitchen stuff, surf boards and personal effects) quote of 2 and a half grand, or rebuy? Were leaving our UK place furnished and renting out so leaving much furniture there. For the quote we've had I'm wondering if we should just start again and beg and borrow a little. I've heard emirates will let the baggage limit be increased if emigrating so wondered about packing as much as humanly possible that way. Any thoughts would be really, really appreciated.
  15. At long last, we are coming to activate our visas and for our reckie on Jan 2nd and staying just 8 nights in Adelaide. We have been looking at renting a holiday apartment in the city centre as then we're central. It would be really appreciated if anyone could recommend a central place that is cheap and cheerful (for 2 adults and a toddler). Or another thought was if anyone might need a house / pet sitter during the holiday season? Paula
  16. Hi everyone, We've had some debate in our household lately as to weather we will get more family time when we make the move to Adelaide or if we will have to work just as hard. So wondered if people would mind sharing their experiences? We work 9-5 here, is this the same is Aus or do they start / finish earlier?? I did work in Melbourne many moons ago and found it much less stressful than my previous job in London. I've also read than the holiday allowance in smaller?
  17. Thank you everyone - I'll definitely take a look at your thread, Henley Girl. I'm trying to do a bit everyday now. Just working on the mass 'sell off' at the moment as we're moving in with folks for a couple of months before coming out. Next on the list is looking at finding us temparary accommodation as cheap as poss! I'm looking at house sits - has anyone tried this??
  18. Hello, Just an update as we have eventually got our visa's - How is it going Julie?? Are there any other Social workers or Therapists on here??
