    Medway Towns

hi, We moved from Maidstone last july to adelaide and having worked for edf electric and mainly in the medway towns for quite a few years i would say that adelaide is by far a nicer, safer and freindlier place to live and work even though first impressions of the place are certainly not as nice as many parts of kent, but in my opinion the worse areas over here are no way near as bad as the worse places in medway or maidstone.Ken.
  4. hi, we are over here on a student visa which was done by immigration ********* we had to get the kids enrolled into the school system while we were (immigration unit) applying for our visa. You are not chooing an actual school, you are just getting them onto the school system so when you do come over you then choose the school of your choice.Sounds confusing i know and costly. good luck, ken.
  5. hi, yeah i would be up for a game.havnt played in two years or so and even then had a handicap like robs but always enjoyed it.not sure what courses are around the area but hopefully they have a ninteenth.
  6. a bbq where i get to the food first before the flies
  7. hi,my brother in law got here to oz with his tra as a roofer but was unable to find any suitable employment as one.yes there are plenty of new builds everywhere but the majority of them are metal sheet roofs and not tiles.im sure you will be able to get a roofing job but i would certainly try just to get anyjob while still looking for that roofing one,and just to add that the health and safety is still some way behind the uk so dont expect things like scaffolding around single storey houses etc.
  8. Good for you and your family Sarah and its good to see im not the only one living up north.
  9. hello duncan,im from kent but our best mates over here in adelaide are from chelmsford in essex. more to the point,im hopeing you being from dagenham you are a hammers fan.good one if you are shame on you if not.lol ken
  10. the libraries here give you all sort of info on bike trails and walks etc.they give you loads of info on just about everything so not like uk just aplace to hire abook from.certainly a few golf courses about the place.i have a nice little par 3 one near me which is about my limit and as far as meeting fellow brits for a drink the best way we have found is through the kids ie schools and there freinds etc.you wont have any trouble as there are so many of us over here. i see your from ayr.we had a day there with the kids just b4 we came over as we were seeing family in bonnie scotland and we were flying in and out off prestwick just up the road.

    Omg!

hi jac,i know exactly how you feel.its like now its reality and kinda scary now the house is up for sale rather than the nice kinda dream of moving to oz.it is hard when it does come to saying goodbyes,we have all done it and gone through it but time does make it easier and the internet and international phone cards makes keeping in touch with freinds, families so much easier.you could have your nice house here with good times aswell, you must just give it time.it is quite common for one of you to be all up for it and the other not so sure, but you really have to both try to compromise and when you have kids especially you really need to try and think whats best for them and there kids etc but you must stick together and not let it tare you appart. lastly you are doing the right thing coming for a recce(maybe dont if it happens take offer on house untill you return)we came out not having done one and perhaps we was a little blinkered on what our vision of oz was going to be,and believe me it was not exactly what we had imagined, but if you come with an open mind and you find the nice areas where there are certanly lots of them then im sure you will be ok.i was a roof tyler like graham years ago and i come from your part of the world aswell which is beutifull i know so if we can move out im sure you will be fine.theres so much more to do here and without dought the people are so much freindlier and more child freindly.you will love it.ken
  12. hi libby, not the news you would prob have off wanted, but just to you let you know you are not alone feeling like you do. we have been here six months and thinking back to what we had (wife didnt have to work, two cars ,nice house the hols etc) what more was i expecting in oz. Im glad we have made the move as i prob would have always thought the other side is always greener and like anywhere in the world i think life is what you make it. we are giving it a year then will go back to uk for a holiday to see how it feels and who knows might be desperate to get back out here in the sunshine. like me libby and prob a few others try not to keep thinking of the good things back home and as time goes on (so i have been told)it will get easier.take care, ken.
