Winery recommendations

Beautiful time of year to visit a winery or two, and as we have visitors at the moment we've been to a few out of our normal area.

 

My favourite in McLaren Vale was Ekhidna http://ekhidnawines.com.au/ - good food, lovely wines, and apparently a very passable line in beers too!

 

Today we've been in the Hills, and paid a visit to The Lanes Winery http://www.thelane.com.au/ - got to say this is one of the absolute best wine tasting experiences we've had in our (nearly) nine years here - extremely knowledgable and friendly cellar door staff and some truly lovely wines, not to mention fantastic 360deg views. We didn't eat there this time, but the food looked great too so will definitely be going back to give that a try. Noticed a nice log burner and comfy chairs there too so I reckon a visit in the cooler months would be just as good.

We visited Saltram in Barossa yesterday. Beautiful setting and an amazing menu. Even the coffee and cakes were little works of art!
