Decision time help needed

Having unsuccessfully put our house up for sale for a year in 2012-13 we have now finally sold, the sale was prompted by upgrading the thought of upgrading out Uk home for a bigger one but then that raised the question now we have sold should we make the move to Adelaide. We will be mortgaging ourselves up to move in the uk or in Adelaide we could be virtually mortgage free for a bigger house than what we have just sold. So I'm just looking for a few advices to help make our decision

with no mortgage would a salary of $60000 be enough for a family of 4

What is the current job market like (in particular for HVAC engineers)

my hubby Is currently in management in the UK would a move to Adelaide mean a move back on the tools. Do you have to prove your worth in the Aussie market first or do they look at experience gained in the uk

having being lacklustre at paying into a private pension would you qualify for a aussie state pension (if there is one?)

thanks

Interesting have you actually looked at house prices here and the stamp duty costs. Very few can now be mortgage free after all the costs of the visa and move. It does depend where you want to live though. We sold a 6 bed house on a large plot in the UK and cannot get anything here for that. decent two bed townhouses near the city are $800k up! Mind you this is an expensive area.

realistically how much will you have left to spend on a house after visa costs, removals, temp accommodation, flights etc.

if you will have more than £250,000 then all is good for a good suburb further out for a 3/4 bed house with a decent plot. Depends what you mean. Also depends on schools, how old are the kids? Even non private schools are not free here, still have admin fees, equipment and books to buy not like in the UK.

Not trying to put you off but you do need to research the costs, without a mortgage you might be OK on that but it will be tight.

regarding pensions you have to pay into a private pension here called super. The employer does this, check if wages are quoted before or after super.

Not seen a thread like this for many a year! Obviously depends on house expectations and where you're willing to live, but these days it's not often that someone faces the situation where moving to a different house in the UK means mortgaging themselves up, and moving to a bigger house in Adelaide means being virtually mortgage free.

We moved from Manchester. Now we could have been in a much cheaper part than you, but even 7 years ago when we got here houses were much more expensive in Adelaide, and that was at the height of the housing boom in the UK. The build quality here is not that great either. I often think about how much cheaper houses in Manchester are.

Uk house prices have been rising and are back to pre recession prices also the exchange rate is the best it's been since we had our visa granted so all working in our favour

We have been looking at seaford as a place to live we stayed in Christies beach in 2012 and like it round there and 3 bed houses, we hadn't looked into stamp duty so thanks for the advice Rammygirl. Our kids are 7 and 2
