  1. This is different. It's to access part of my Australian Super as an income stream (rubs hands with glee) and it's really specific (see below): Members residing overseas must have their identificationdocuments certified by a person who has an Australianconnection (as set out above). Any documents certified by aperson who is licensed or registered to practise in an occupationlisted above in a foreign country (and not in Australia), or whoholds a position in a foreign country, will not be accepted byUniSuper (except for a foreign notary public).
  2. Thanks Eliza. My requirements are more specific, in that I am in the UK now, and the person signing (who of course must also be in the UK) must be registered in certain occupations in Australia. They won't accept anything less in my case.
  3. Hi, I am visiting the UK until Christmas and have a need for an Aus-registered teacher, doctor, judge, JP, lawyer, chartered accountant or similarly highly venerated profession, to certify my SA driver's licence. Simply, that means they have to look at me, my driver's licence and a photocopy thereof, and sign the photocopy to the effect that that really is me. You would also have to record your Australian professional registration details. Are you, or somebody you know, currently in the UK Midlands and able to do that for me? The nearer to Northamptonshire the better. I am unable to get to London to the embassy during the week, and I need this doing quite quickly. If you can do this for me, feel free to PM me. My wife (Cazzie on this forum) and I will meet you in a public place of your choosing and either buy you coffee and cake, or present you with a bottle of South Aussie wine from Tesco or similar for your trouble. Thanks in advance, Bill
  4. Sorry to hear that Ollie. The shame is that Australia might miss out on your mechanic skills due to a technicality, when your English skills are probably as good as many an Australian mechanic. Good luck with any other avenues that you decide to explore.
  5. Well I don't know much about the English test, but I agree with adelaidenow about the quality of English in your post. If you really want this dream to go on, believe in yourself and do some classes to prepare you for the test. As you learn, you WILL believe in your ability. Go for it I say.
  6. Loved Canberra, compact enough to walk from city centre accommodation to the National Art Gallery, Parliament House etc. Definitely worth a visit.
  7. Just so you know, my last visit there in March was with mainly metal - office chairs, beach chairs - and because it was mainly metal, it was free!
  8. Well, I went to the UK for a holiday in 1997 during the cricket test series between Australia and England, and found myself disappointed when England won the 2nd test. That was my epiphany. I don't expect that to happen to too many people, but good luck with making your decision.
  9. Well, I did have my tongue in my cheek, as did the original post, but obviously you missed that part.
  10. Apart from Adelaide with its Coopers Ales, most beer on tap (on draught to new poms) is rubbish anyway (Tooheys, XXXX etc). So you should only drink bottled beer in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Darwin. Therefore the simple rule is: When in Adelaide, order a pint of Cooper's. When elsewhere, order a bottle of Cooper's. Hope this clears it up even more. (except Cooper's isn't clear, but that's another story)
  11. Rivers used to be great quality about 8-10 years ago, when their only Adelaide store (as far as I am aware) was at Westfield Marion. They sold really nice shirts then, but clearly when they expanded, they diversified
  12. Err, Harvey & Norman ?
  13. As a deliberately once-a-year ping-ponging pom (children and grandchildren here, step-children and grandchildren in the UK), I sometimes forget about pomsin and miss out on news and debates as a result. One thing I have been wondering is whether much has been discussed about the electrification of the Noarlunga line. Is it just me, or does anybody else think it's Ugly, Ugly Ugly? Could they have possibly put the electrics underground? Too expensive maybe? But all those poles must have cost a fortune! I know that railway corridors are traditionally ugly (without the capital U), but I really feel for the residents of Marino, Marino Rocks and Hallett Cove who had great sea views over the railway line, and now have to peer past huge metal poles and a mass of overhead cables. Ugh!
  14. Southern suburbs to Northern suburbs is not impossible - I did it for 20 years by train and bus - but for part-time work you are right, not an appealing thought! Good luck with your search.
