  1. I can tell you on good authority (working alongside, but not specifically within the industry) that yes, there is, and a demand for GOOD crane operators. More so in Melbourne and Eastern States, but there is certainly work here in Adelaide for them in the CBD.
  2. I'd be up for it. Will have to check my calendar to make sure.
  3. Here's a good one for you, a guy replying to this thread... Anyway, been through that not too long ago. Don't want to be off topic, but we used the weddings SA forum (www.weddingsa.com/forums) for a lot of research. My personal favourites that we discovered by ourselves were Heidelberg cakes (Stepney), Kerry Willard in the Stamford Plaza for our wedding reception (I think she's a Londoner too, a lovely girl and did a GREAT job, nothing was too much trouble for her or the other staff - Well Done Kerry !) and Shay van Weezep as our celebrant. The drivers from Adelaide Impressions were also VERY professional - full marks. These people, esp. Kerry made it what it was - a great day.
  4. Not sure, never dealt with PB or savings bonds, but if you are interested in savings for them / kids accounts and all the tax issues etc. that go with it, I can recommend a great book. "How to give your kids $1 Million each" (and it won't cost you a cent) by Ashley Ormond. Big blue cover His other (red cover) book "$1 Million for life" is equally as good, it's more for "us adults". I have both books and I love his straight-forward talking style. It is NOT a 'get rich quick' book, but he does go into a lot of the tax issues and structures for kids savings etc. Check it out at http://www.investing101.com.au P.S. I know from Scott Pape's Barefoot Investor Blog at news.com.au that there is something called an 'education bond' (or something like that), but I'm not too crash hot on how they work. In any case, not holding an AFSL, I can only point you in the right direction - sorry !
  5. Did anyone catch it ? For those who weren't able to, it showed quite a few interesting shops with UK food made here in Australia. For those who are homesick, or, like me, still love a good (and occasional) black pudding / pork pie / traditional fish and chips, they were all available at :- http://www.sbs.com.au/food/foodsafaricuisine/index/cp/376/section/businesses/n/English The food looked REALLY good:jiggy:and there is a great looking fish shop on KI. Was my first time to see the program. Videos and recipes are at :- http://www.sbs.com.au/food/recipeindex/RecipeByCategoryMain/376/1 Some of the businesses were interstate, but if you're lucky enough to get over there, they looked well worth a visit....and maybe even a take-home souvenir (I get the other half to bring Krispy Kremes back when she visits SYD / MEL)
  6. I didn't want to double up on 'Hi' threads, but would like to say "Hi" and am new to the site - had a REAL bad experience with 'another' UK Expats forum last year that I won't mention (unless asked ) and did not return to a UK Expat forum board for over 12 months (this is my first outing back onto the 'horse'), my first experiences were so bad, full of trolls and in-fighting. I went back and took a look, they were still at it ! And all I was trying to do was help out, having been here 8 years, I thought I might give back and also maybe find some new mates. Never thought that I would be unlucky enough with my first foray to chance upon the worst place to do so ! Anyway, I get the feeling that this place is a bit different and nicer, so I'm looking forward to coming here instead of 'there'....I am sure you can guess the site.
  7. New here but would be up for any future nights out in NE area / CBD. Looking forward to it. CJ.
