  3. I am wanting fridge , fridge /freezer to use as a beer fridge , not really concerned what it looks like as long as it works , thanks
  4. Have you contacted the school direct,,, we where renting in woodcroft,,, but had secured a long term rental in hallett cove (they will wanted to see you rental agreement so the can confirm you are in the catchment area). But Andrew one of the school intake councilors suggested them to start straight away before we had moved to hallett cove.... I would ring them or email them,,, good luck x jules x
  5. We arrived early september.. both our kids have settled into hallett cove high school r12 really well!! william (12) and emily (17). The kids had buddies assigned to them to help them settle in. Both emily and william have made some great friends already. hope everything goes well with your move ...

  9. HI , we have been here 3 weeks now , we arrived on a saturday and i was offered a job on monday , then another on thursday , i work in print and there seems to be work out there , as to the cost of living , some things are more expensive and vice versa , it also depends on your visa , if you are a permanent visa you may get family assistance and rent assist where as a temp visa will not , dont worry about the cost just do it , if you dont you will regret it , its a wonderful place , everyone is helpfull and its a great place to live ... ian
  10. I would defo look at shipping things over!!!! we have shipped over 9 large boxes, 2 beds (1 king size, 1 double) 2 x TV's, total cost £1000.00. The cost of electrical items and furniture differs so much... I wish we had shipped more things over now!!. I would get some quotes, we used a local company in Leeds called GB liners, but they will give quotes for all over the uk,, its defo worth a quote.
  11. Hi ,, we looked at long term rentals on the web sites before we came, and listened to lots of advice on here...... We secured a short term rental for 4 weeks, to give ourselves plenty of time to find a long term rental in the right area.. We organised, references from our current rental at that time, from the uk (we had sold our house and rented for 6months) . We printed of bank statements and job offers, and a covering letter telling the vendors, a little something about you guys and what visa you are on (advice given on pomz in adelaide). When you are looking at rentals over here bare in mind its open viewings and about 6 other familes will be looking with you!! so all that prep work before hand will stand you in good stead... We have secured a 4/5 bed long term rental in hallett cove for $500 a week,, its not furnished,, but the area is fantastic, the high school is good for both emily and william, And its 20 min drive away from ians work. good luck with you move, hope it all goes well. sandford x
  12. Hi we flew with Singapore airlines,, last week!! we had a confirmation email from Singapore airlines, just confirming you could have extra baggage allowance on a 175/176 visa (permanent/not been validated). We just printed out all our confirmation emails to show when checking in!! I would give them a ring explain what you guys are doing, there very helpful in manchester airport (not sure where you are flying from), we stayed over in singapore for 3 days, when we checked in again in changi airport, with our 7 suitcase's weight was 160kg all they wanted to look at was a confirmation letter (printed out email) , and all was good... we also had our visas stickers put in our passports as extra proof of visa.. (this only took less than a week, its free ..just need to send it to australian embassy in London). Good luck guys !!!
  13. Hi , we flew last week with singapore airlines , they were great , drinks and food are all free.......... if you want a snack at any time just go to the galley and they will let you have it . if you are stopping over in singapore like us for a few nights ., get a mortgage ha ha , to say it was expensive would be an understatement , although the traders hotel was fab i still didnt like paying £9 a pint and £4 for a can of coke !!!!! singapore is a very beautiful and safe place to visit so if you can ... do it
  14. Hi we flew with singapore via manchester on monday and are now in singapore fot 3 nights , flights were really good , stopped in munich for about an hour , but was no problem, if you are on a perm visa that has not been used you do get 40 kg per person , changi airport is good and you can hire rooms for hours to sleep/shower ect they also have a swimming pool to use and i believe the room rates are pretty good , good look....
  15. oh congratulation...................this is when the fun starts... ha ha .... see you down under x x jules and ian

    Chocolate

If you decide to declare anything i.e chocolate or food items, you might have to have all your luggage checked............. ..declaring is obviously v important!! but why waste your time unpacking everything infront of a stranger.. just dont bring anything over to decare on the flight and shop when you arrive.. its abit of a no brainer

  24. We decided to go with NAB.... we emailed them on a sunday night, And had a bank account up and running on the monday morning. Our NAB advisor emailed as to arrange a time and date to collect our bank cards, when we arrive down under . We have used Moneycorp to transfer our funds from England to Australia.
