Hi my partners Father is desperately ill in the uk and has had to apply for a resident return visa. Does anyone know if there is a department we can contact to see if we can get it processed quicker as he could pass away any day and the guidelines are saying 7 to 30 days? many thanks

Hi everyone, So im heading back to the Uk in a 7 weeks, however when i am there I am hiring a car but just realised my SA driving licence expires in august (I will be back in oz by then) just scared that it will cause a problem when i go to hire a car in the UK with the expiry date being so close...anyone got any light to shed on this? If i renew my licence how long does it take to come through? TIA

Hi All, My partner has help a south australian licence for less than a year but a UK one for over 20 years. He is currently doing his two day HC Tile course and they are saying you have to have a South Australian Licence for 2 years to get a learners permit. However, we have researched this and have found it stipulates a Class C for 2 years and doesnt mention south australian (they are now saying he may get issued with one or may not depends on what they check at services SA!). I know the UK class C licence is deemed to be the equivalent as a south australian C class. He is due to apply for his learners permit tommorow and now were stressing! I know there have been previous threads on this before anyone says but its slightly different as he is just on a class C. Can anyone shed some light please on this? Ive also applied to coles, woolworths etc and have been turned down. So i will persevere...... Thanks again x

Hi all, I'm currently working as a hairdresser and after being treated like S**t by employers have decided to try and get back into office work. I have UK experience and no matter how hard I try or how many times I apply I get nothing......Seriously feeling down right now. I have even thought about volunteering on my day off to try and get something Australian on my CV. I have years of experience and I am so capable and fantastic with people I just feel sending a CV and a cover letter is getting me no where. Seriously hate my job so much i cant bare it. I know im lucky to have a job but desperate to have a job where I dont feel sick about going to work..... Any advice would be welcome.......

Hi we get our keys shortly for our long term rental and apart from buying a mattress and bedding the day we move with a kettle and cups we have nothing. Were looking to see what CHEAP shops even charity shops are around so we can try and buy some things. We will also be looking for a 2nd hand washing machine and a fridge so we will need to hire transport to go and pick them up. Ill be having a look on gumtree just wondered if theres anywhere people can recommend also for an old tv as we are brassique until the money starts to come in. Any suggestions would be welcome. Also any good van rental places that wont break the bank :-/ x

So hard to find a decent rental the agents were vile mostly and spoke to you like c*ap. Only a small amount have been helpful. Ive felt like they just dont want you torent anywhere its ridiculous. I ended up meeting a lovely agent and she really helped us. She will be getting a thankyou card and some flowers when we sign the lease xxx

I didnt say i had anything against mount barker or any of the surrounding towns.....Simply dont want to live in mount barker as we may not be working there for long and will possibly be working in the CBD in a few months so didnt fancy the commute if working long term in the cbd We bought a mobile dongle theyre excellent!

Airbnb is amazing! dont be put off by staying with people if anything its way better than having our own place we have been given so much help, ;local knowledge and have made some good friends along the way xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi Diane i was about to come back to you but being as the place we are staying in had no internet for the last 5 days it was a little hard to respond despite working everyday and having no access to the net!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks anyway. Thanks to everyone who responded positively this is what makes me stop posting on forums like this! I saw a couple of comments prior to us having no internet. We have viewed many properties and have had a terrible week regarding finding somewhere to live and homesickness etc, many were inhabitable. We have viewed properties that we wouldn't house a filthy animal in. Houses that have been empty for weeks and are ideal we have put applications in, we have excellent references, full time work the both of us, and have savings, however for some bizarre reason even after checking with our employer etc we still hear nothing, the property is still on the market. Its quite bizzare. We found pout today we have been accepted on a house in Ascot park. Not the best house in the world but its a base and we cant wait to move in and try and make a home as were over the whole suitcase thing. Kathcats i really feel for you. Have you looked on air bnb this is how we are staying with people at the moment. We have been to the bottle shop too, many tears, sleepless nights, no routine. Its very hard when you have no one but each other. My cats are in a cattery also the one being very old and not good health. I have cried the whole day after seeing them. However i believe this is temporary and things will get better. If you need somewhere to stay let us know we sign for our house on the 25th July we would be happy to help. You may have to get an airbed lol. Thanks again for the advice x

Hi everyone, i knew it would be difficult but not this hard. We are looking for somewhere to rent upto late $300 dollars say about $380. We have cats and will be working in mount barker. Really dont want to be living in mount barker had a look today at some rentals and they were....bad. really dont know what to do i am prepared to travel to work but with about 45 minutes in a car.. anyone know of anything going? x
