  1. All that effort just to sling in T&E! Ive heard very diplomatic explanations regarding the standard of electrical work here such as "its not rough, just different" Its not different, it's just rough! Welcome to a life of pulling T&E through conduits and plastic absolutely everything, no more metal clad fellas!
  2. Ill give you a quote Dan. As long as you promise to sit down before reading it...

  7. Dont worry, just lower your standards and expectations by about half and you will literaly love it here
  8. Why would you even consider changing careers from a lawyer in the UK to an electrician in Australia?????????????? You must have a fetish for hot roofs, spiders and asbestos!! Even retraining to be a sparks in the UK is pretty unwise, rates are rock bottom and the trade is quickly being de-valued by all the boil in the bag / be an electrician in 6 weeks and earn 50k a year type courses. Nonsense. Stay at your nice tidy desk mate!
  9. Hi, Im looking for a guy with a machine to do some trenching, and a little bit of form work/concreting. Anyone interested please PM me. Cheers, Jon.
  10. Well if its any consolation, its slow for us sparkies too at the moment, Adelaide is certainly a boom or bust kind of place....One week the phone never stops ringing, the next silence... Its tough trying to ride out the quiet times but have faith in your skills and stick with it.
  11. Domestic, commercial and retail, insured and experienced - happy to give free quotations. Pm me for your next project! Cheers, Jon.
  12. Neilsens, Boffa & Russo, Leane Electrical, ODG to name a few.... Leanes MD is a POM so maybe try there first! These companies all do big commercial stuff. Just avoid domestic stuff during the summer, trust me lol
  13. Anyone in the CBD / St Peters area of the city and fancy a pint or 2? Jon
  14. Guys, Who do you use for income protection and life insurance? Im a sparky and have had a few quotes but the policies seem useless e.g. I would only recieve 100% of my insured amount per week if i were to have both legs amputated or lost both eyes!! How much do you pay a month? Any help welcome, Cheers, Jon
  15. Yes I think thats correct about the Japanese not allowing Dual Citizenship - When my son becomes a certain age he will have to decide where his loyalties lie. If he wants to be Japanese he will forfeit his Australian and British Citizenships - thats from the Japanese consulate in Melbourne. Hopefully you are correct though RockDr and he can somehow keep all 3!! If we did not apply for his Japanese Citizenship within 3 months of birth, he would never be entitled to it. Pretty tough laws in Japan about this kind of thing.... Thanks again.
  16. Thanks guys, Our son was born in Australia to an English Dad and Japanese Mum - both on PR. He has an Australian birth cert so is naturally an Australian Citizen. We want him to have Both English and Japanese also. So all we need to do is apply for a British passport? - I think Uk Embassy in NZ is the closest as the Australian one has closed - rather strange given the amount of poms here and people travelling to the UK from Australia??
  17. Hi guys, Wifey and I have just had our first child and want him to have British Citizenship - Im sick of trying to get a response from the British High Commission in London, im not even 100% sure this is the place to contact? Has anyone been in this situation? Cheers, Jon.
  18. 12 months gap training on TA wages is an absolute joke!!! If you can do tray, plastic tube, twin and earth and RCDs then you're an Aussie spark. Thats why I started from scratch with the ARTC to avoid the gap training.
  19. I cant tell you what the difference is. When i did it, Vetassess was just needed to get a visa, Aussies in Australia still didnt know what Vetassess was!! Thats why I started fresh and did the ARTC then wiring rules course after my visa was granted. You get your ARTC from TRA if i remember right. Clear as mud! BTW, you will find info about ARTC on the TRA website and you can do it all from the UK.
  20. Yeah you will need all these kinds of documents for the ARTC... Qualls, OH&S certs, JIB card if applicable and shed loads of info about what he's been doing on site for the last 4 years. You will also need to get all the originals photocopied and sent as certified copies.
  21. Makes more sense to do everything in the UK whilst you are still earning. You will need to do the ARTC and the wiring rules at PEER so complete your ARTC then if you pass you can get the wiring rules shipped out via correspondance. Bear in mind the wiring rules alone are not enough to get a license, you must pass the ARTC too. You may want to hold off on the wiring rules until you know youve passed the ARTC. Thats what I did anyway and was the best way of doing it around 18 months ago...
  22. Check the requirements for ARTC ( Australian Recognised Trade Certificate ) he may need further on-site experience before he will be granted one, lots of variables though.... Even though you are the main applicant he will still need his skills recognising in order to get the A Class Electrical license. Good luck, Jon
