1. I take it you have been looking for a job on all the usual places: Seek.au, Carrerone, Mycareer, Indeed & Linkedin. You can also set up job alerts for free with key words for you sector. If not I found this link and put a cover letter and CV out to all agencies: http://adelaidebound.com/jobsearches.html Hope this helps and welcome to POMS in Adelaide
 2. Hi Mojo, I don't know about the nursing sector but from my own experience, a defo YES to going in person. It puts a name to a face and also I have applied for 40+ jobs in the last few months and had little or no reply from my applications. I am hoping this is because we are not yet in the country and not because of my CV . We move in 3 weeks so hopefully will find something once we get there. Good luck with the reccie and let us all know how you get on. Best Regards, Mark
 3. Amazing News!!! Congrats :smile:Let the fun begin. We have 3 weeks left and one piece of advice I would give is try and spread the work load as there is sooo much to do in the last month leading up to your move. Good luck and hope all works out for you
 4. I know what you mean they do feel a little flimsy. Come with a 10 year guarantee though so hopefully will last that long. They are made from parachute material so might come in handy on the plane . I have had the medium size luggage for 3 or 4 years and paid 3 times as much for them. There are still fine, a little worn on the corners but other than that have stood the test of time. I just paid £40 each for the largest size you can buy.... bargain.
 5. Hi All, Thought that I would share this with you all as I have been looking for a bargain on the Lightest Suitcases in the world :-) For all you people that are not out in Oz yet and know every kilo counts with the check in. Matalan have a sale on the it suitcase range. http://www.matalan.co.uk/homeware/travel-essentials/suitcases-and-travel Unlike Argos and Asda, which are slightly cheaper these have the slightly larger big size suitcases and are the newer better build quality.
 6. Hi Karen, take it you have tried Skyscanner. This is the best place to look for flights and also hotels. We booked with Qantas in Feb but fly with Emirates. This was £600 each adult one way stopping in Dubai This is the shortest overall distance flight ro Adelaide:

Flights

Flight Total price incl. of taxes and fees £599.65

Depart

Depart 1415 Thu, 25Apr Heathrow(LHR), London, United Kingdom

Arrive 0015 Fri, 26Apr Dubai Intl Arpt(DXB), Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Qantas Airways QF8002 Economy Operated By Emirates Airlines

Connection of 01 hours 50 mins in Dubai Intl Arpt(DXB), Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Depart 0205 Fri, 26Apr Dubai Intl Arpt(DXB), Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Arrive 2005 Fri, 26Apr Adelaide Arpt(ADL), Adelaide, Australia

Qantas Airways QF8440 Economy Operated By Emirates Airlines

We are stopping in Dubai for a week to try and de stress after all that we have been trying to cram into the last month I really need it:arghh:. Cheers, Mark
 7. Hi All, 4 weeks to go before the big move!!! Can someone come and help me as I am burried under the patio in the back garden.
 8. Hi All, We are moving over next month on a 475 visa and will be looking for full time nursery/pre schools. Here in the U.K we get about £100 a month TAX/National Insurance relief per month through child care vouchers and when our boy turns 3 would have had 15 hours paid for a week by the government. Please can anyone let us know if we are entitled to any help with the fees? If not what are our best options for full time child care. Cheers, Mark
 9. Hello, I am the main applicant on our 475 visa and will be looking to work full time and therefore paying taxes to the Australian government. My husband is a secondary applicant and may have the opportunity to temporarily keep working for his current UK employer whilst living in Australia- does anyone know if this is allowed? Im almost certain he will be paid in the UK if that helps? Thanks!
 10. I been reading a lot of post recently but I have to say this has to be one of the most heart warming post I have ever looked at. We are in the final 4 weeks of getting everything sorted for the final push to move out to Adelaide. We have soooo much to do in soooo little time and my head is spinning. But reading this post has really made my day. Thank you and good luck to you all as a family and for the future.
 11. Thanks for the reactions all, this has been really helpful. Its good to know there will be a good chance to catch up with some of us Dutchies out there
 12. I was wondering if anyone knows of any Dutch people, or Dutch toddler groups in Adelaide? I am Dutch, my husband is English (we currently live in England) and we are moving to Adelaide May 2nd. It would be great to meet some Dutch people on the other side! May be totally misplaced here, but its hard to find anything on the Internet, I found one website for the Dutch in Adelaide but there seems to be no activity on there , so though I would give it a try here..? Thanks
 13. We're moving to the Flag staff hills in may. Should we be worried?
 14. Bear Grills will be having a mixed grill of snake n spider instead of surf n turf lol
 15. Great read but not so great for us as we are going to be cashing over from the pound to the dollar in the next month or so!!! Hopefully it will not continue to trend in the same way
 16. We're travelling out on the 2nd May so to late for this one but keep me posted on your future plans for a seminar Thanks Mark
 17. That's great news for you to get a interview on Skype, so happy for you. Keep us posted and good luck for Tuesday. I have been trying to be proactive by applying for soooooo many position in my sector as a CAD Engineer but I have not been getting much if any feedback from employers and recruitment agencies. I really am hoping that it's because they want me to be in Australia before they will take me seriously and not that my CV is no good.
 18. Thanks for the advice Tony, Looks like I will be having a few late nights or early mornings then to make the calls required. Are you A CAD designer yourself and did you have any agencies worth trying. Any contacts whats so ever would be of great help. Best Regards, Mark
 19. Hi There Ed, Did see your first post and wanted to reply. Can't believe that there are no POMS out there that want to play football!!! I play 6 a side here in the U.K but been out with Ankle ligament damage for a few months so 90 minutes scares the **** out of me:nah:. Need to break myself in gently and build up my fitness. Would love to play but we don't get to Adelaide till May and we are going to have our weekends full with sorting everything out. Wouldn't mind doing an evening in the week if you train then if possible? PM me with more details and I will give you a bell when I get over. Cheers, Mark
 20. Finally booked our flights! Flying out 25 April and will be staying in Dubai for a mini holiday on the beach (guess we will need that by then!). Arriving in Adelaide 2nd May. Still not sold the house, but confident we can rent out in we cant sell. Have got short term accommodation sorted as well. Still have to confirm shipment, reviewing quotes and have to make final decision on what to bring along. 2,5 more months to go and its still not sinking in!!
 21. Hi Xzibit, thanks for your reply. You have just confirmed what I already suspected; I have contacted several companies with no results. I sent my CV off to various CAD companies found in the yellow pages but never received any replies. I thought at first this was due to the fact Im not yet in Adelaide, but unfortunately it isn't. I have got a NVQ qualification in AutoCAD 3D modelling, is that worth anything in Australia? I was wondering if you have any further advice for me perhaps? Thanks again for your help, Mark
 22. Hi All, I have been looking for a job on all the usual places Seek.au, Carrerone, Mycareer, Indeed & Linkedin but have not managed to find any CAD NX Unigraphics Designer Jobs. Plenty with AutoCAD but not a single one for NX. I have been looking for 6 months now and I am getting a bit concerned. There seems to be plenty in all the other major cities in Oz but not in Adelaide and we are going on a SA state visa. I wondered if there was any other CAD Engineers out there that use the Siemens based software that might be able to point me in the right direction. Is there any companies/agencies that anyone might be able to recommend for point of contact? Yours Hopefully, Best Regards, Mark
 23. Hi Deardos, Great news to hear you already have a job! I speak for myself when I say I find that one of the scariest things- the prospect of moving probably without a job for me or my husband. Must be such a relief for you. Here comes the obvious question: what kind of work do you do and how did you find your job? Every little helps for us Thanks!
 24. Great to see all these reactions. We have now decided to sell our house instead of renting it out and will have it on the market hopefully by next weeks- fingers crossed! Also we are having a survey done in October for our household good shipments, need to make decisions now on what we would like to bring with us. Still can’t believe that we will be in Australia in 7 or 8 months time – I don’t think it has sunk in yet??!
 25. No, not yet, but the south sounds good to us as well! Guess it all depends on where we can find our jobs..
