  1. Hi everyone, We are currently looking at breaking lease in Hallett Cove, and we are looking for someone to take over the lease. The house is 4 bedroom, near to schools and parks and a perfect family home. The rent is $410 per week. PM for more details. Thanks
  2. Hello I am not sure if all the new 'Poms in Adelaide' are aware of the P85 form. We downloaded the P85 form off the internet a couple of weeks ago, completed this (really easy to complete even if you don't have your P45) and posted this to the Inland Revenue (UK). This notifies the Inland Revenue that you have moved to Australia, and allows you to claim some of your tax back from the UK for the previous year. Today we received a tax rebate directly into our English account. The whole process only took a couple of weeks from start to finish. Thought I would post this as every penny helps when you move!
  3. Hi Mandi and Leigh Love your post, I think it is so important for people looking on here to see how people have settled! Those last couple of months before you leave are so difficult that you need to see a light at the end of the tunnel! We arrived 12 weeks ago and we have loved every second of it. The first few weeks are hectic, but they are also exciting. We chose Hallett Cove and we are so happy here. Within 4 weeks me and my husband had both found jobs, my 15 year old daughter started school, we secured a rental after 1 week (we literally walked into every estate agent and asked what they had available) All three of us have settled straight away, like you I think Skype and whats app are a god send, and the mobile phone contracts can include international calls too which is great (we also added unlimited uk calls to our Telstra phone bill for $7.50 a month) so staying in touch with family and friends is so easy. I miss people in the UK but that's it, I don't miss the place one bit. Our 15 year old daughter settled into school so well, they give them a tour of the school and put them with a mentor for a week to help them to get to know the school, she has made so many friends and been made so welcome. So far no negatives for us, we have loved every second, I think you need to be open minded with work and maybe consider roles that are different to your role in the UK, but that doesn't mean you have to stay in that job for ever. Our attitude was apply for everything, accept what gets offered to bring money in, and change later if it doesn't suit us. Luckily we both have found similar jobs to what we had in the U.K, so we feel so lucky. The only thing we have not done yet is begin to socialise with anyone! I may check out the meet ups on here! to be honest we have been that busy and excited by everything that its not bothered us. I would honestly recommend this to anyone, for 12 weeks I have woke up every day feeling lucky to be here, you wake up to sunshine, everyone is so friendly, even after work we can go the beach, or for a lovely walk, glass of wine overlooking the sea, weekends are full of new places. Don't let the stress of the visa process put you off, it is worth every second of stress! Good luck to anyone applying, just remember it will be worth the wait!
  4. Thanks, makes you think why bother trying to help, some people don't mind a drive down the coast!
  5. ohh bit sarcy? we live in Hallet Cove, its a 25 minute drive, didn't realise it had to be in a 10 minute radius of Hallett Cove?
  6. We found a wholesale butchers in Port adelaide, the meat was so cheap, there was akso a big fruit and veg market down the road from it, we saved a fortune! Its on the main road into port adelaide, on the left - :-D
  7. We moved to Australia 2 months ago, we hadnt planned on Hallet Cove, but when we drove around we loved it. We love tge are, our rental is great and we dont feel isolated from anywhere, we live on the same street as the primary school and there is a bus stop/route that takes you directly to the city just across the street (i drive, but its another option) There are tons of parks and a nice little shopping mall, goid luck with the move ! QUOTE=Ashleigh;285539]We have decided on Hallett Cove to settle, found some good childcare centres and some lovely houses and we like it's got good transport links. Has anyone been to/lived in Hallett Cove? would be nice to hear your experiences of the suburb!
  8. We would be interested in attending too:smile: QUOTE=Andrew from Vista Financial;284115]Hello all. We have had an influx of enquiries recently from people who are considering transferring their UK Pension to Australia (perhaps something to do with the sterling exchange rate increase) and therefore I thought that I might get a feel from members who might be interested in attending a UK Pension Transfer Seminar. I used to run these on a regular basis (generally 6 monthly) but have not ran one for a while due to numbers. Therefore if there are any members of PIA that would be interested in attending then please let me know either by replying to this thread or PM. The Seminar will be free to attend usually runs for around 45-60 minutes and refreshments are provided. It covers off on what you will need to understand when considering transferring your UK Pension to Australia as certainly this can be a very complex area and quite daunting for people. This is a non-pressured environment and gives unbiased informative information around the whole process. I have heard many times of people being pressured or misguided about having to transfer within certain time periods to avoid hefty taxes but this is certainly not the case You should be able to walk away from this presentation with a much better understanding of the pro's and con's of UK Pension Transfers. The tentative date/times/location will be: Date: Saturday 1st March Time: 11am start Address: Vista Financial Services Offices (107a Main South Road, O'Halloran Hill 5158) Please let me know if you feel this would be of interest to you. Kind Regards Andy
  9. Hi, we just flew with Singapore (they were brilliant), we emailed them to advise that we were emigrating and they sent a confirmation email to print off and take to the airport. This gave us 40 kg each plus 7 kg hand luggage. We were actually 7kg over and they were fine about it. Hope this helps:cute:
  10. Good luck with the move, we are due to move in 5 days, it certainly has its ups and downs, but it's so exciting, like you, we hope its worth it
  11. Naughtons

    Just arrived

well done Taffs! hope it is everything you expected. We fly out in 5 days on the 8th January, can't wait to get there now. We have sold the car and finished the packing today, it has been an emotional day today! We are having a leaving party on Saturday, I think it will be an emotional 5 days! but hopefully worth it!
  12. Thanks for the advice, we have been doing research, but it is so hard before you get there, we are steering towards Brighton high, I appreciate you letting us know, do you know of any other schools with a reputation as good as Brightons? I don't want to commute to far away from the city
  13. Hello We arrive in Adelaide on the 19th January, we are booked into a hotel for a week, during that time we are hoping to secure a rental in the Brighton high or Seaview high catchment area so our 14 year old daughter can start school at the start of the first term. We are looking for a 3 or 4 bedroomed property. We are so excited now, but have 6 days to say our goodbyes (which we are dreading), leaving party on Saturday then we leave on the 8th (visiting my brother in Melbourne for 10 days first) If you know of any suitable rentals we would be really grateful Thanks Angie & Paul
