Hi,

We want to ship some boxes of just personal bits, toys and clothes over but no furniture. Also maybe a bike and a small rocking horse(?!) Has anyone done this, who did you use, how long did it take and how much did it cost?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Im not sure abt the cost but if you are shipping boxes you will prob get a shared container which can be 8-14 weeks in transit. w just got our quotes in from the shipping people and are shipping loads of furniture and around 20 boxes and its just over £2000 for the space in a shared container so you will def be less than that! :)

Not too bad to collect boxes, had to first go to customs to declare what was in the boxes once they arrived in port, then onto the port to collect the boxes, when we arrived at the port they wanted to look in the boxes because we had brought some wooden ornaments, they charged us about $150 to have a look in boxes, said everything was OK, so collected boxes and drove them back to rental. Must admit was a bit of a pain going to two different places before getting the boxes, but at least the places where close together.

Cheers Steven.

We bought a 45 boxes over in Jan 2007 using Excess Baggage and it cost us about $700. This was door to door and it was very good service.

Hi Sandra, sorry to butt in but just seen your reply and wondered who you used and how u went about it, as we are looking into both options, a shipping container or just taking boxes, I didnt realise the price would be that different but that is a great price for that many boxes as its at least £2000 for a 20ft container.

Cheers

Kelly

Hi there, just a note about your rocking horse because we nearly got caught out...

If the rocking horse has real horse hair, you have to have a certificate to say that it has been treated for it to be allowed through customs. We were advised to remove all the hair from ours and then get replacement hair when in Australia as some have had problems even with a certificate.

Ooh yes how did you do that? I did look at this and it seemed quite a cheap and easy option for the bits we want to bring over. More info would be great! Thanks
