Does anyone have any advice on getting employment in Adelaide before we leave the UK? We have residency visa's. I work in the plastics industry as a technician and my wife is a business analyst in the medical industry, we have applied for lots of positions but have had no success to date.

Any advice very welcome.

Hi Lance

It is very unusual for people to secure employment before they are actually here in recent times. Many people who are already living here are even strugling to find work. Not sure how things stand in your particular industries but i think the advice being given to everyone at the moment is to prepare for not having any income for 3-6 months and also be prepared to work doing anything available to start with.

Good Luck Claire

Its hard enough once your here but its quite possible you could get lucky my husband did, but I am still looking for work, and am finding it very difficult with the kids etc, I have also previously worked here too having lived here before.

You just need to keep trying and put yourself out there as much as possible, I totally agree with what Clare n tel is saying you need to have a lot of funds just in case, I know of 2 families that went back to the UK because of work related issues within 6 months of coming here.

I know nothing about what you do either, but they sound very specialist areas, good luck with things, what area are you headed for ? and do you have any kids all the best

I'm not sure what your industry is, but if by medical you mean pharma or devices, this is my field. I managed to find work within days of landing, albeit at a much lower position than I would have commanded in the UK.

As long as you are realistic and don't expect to map across at the same rank you were before, then you will likely be ok. Just take work and get experience of the local market.
